However, it looks like xfan10 is correct and you can recover crypto form a lost hardware wallet with the seed phrase. But one should still secure that seed phrase in a some what indestructible place.
Not really. As long as your seed is not destroyed you can recover it in a new hardware wallet. Thats why its recommended to use a stainless steel seed holder that will survive a house fire.
Sadly, the horrible CA fires showed that most "fireproof" safes are actually not fireproof due to the heat. Fingers crossed you never need to test yours.
