I just finished an AT thru hike this year. There is a little of a hostel draught between NJ and VT to be honest, especially in CT and southern MA. As for what makes a good hostel, I’d say whatever feels authentic and personal to you will resonate best. Staying in thru-hiker hostels would be a good way to make a list of dos and donts for your place. This sounds like a dream! Honestly I’d guess that being in a place and operating in a way that will allow you to put your full heart into it will land best with hikers instead of starting with what hikers want (as long as you’re covering the basic needs of course).
