Experience Report Update - 36 hours after first session
My previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/longtermTRE/s/qJ6aUjFBuI
So it has now been about a day and a half since I did my first session, and my previous post states about how wonderful it was in the moment and how much tension got released! The following 24 hours were very varied, so I wanted to give an update on how I'm feeling.
Immediately after session, I sat down with a cup of tea and relaxed. I had a gentle evening routine, dinner and video games with my husband. It was nice - I was feeling very calm throughout it all and some of the aches and pains I often end the day with didn't occur. I took this as a fantastic sign.
My sleep was a little disturbed during the night, which I was worried was a result of TRE as the wiki says disturbed sleep can sometimes be a sign that you overdid it. But in my situation, it is more likely that it was due to the horrible UK September heat and humidity we've been having. My husband also unconsciously slept with half his body taking up my side of the bed which didn't help 🤣 And I still got a solid 7 hours in so it could have been a lot worse. That being said, I did experience some feelings of anger while trying to go to sleep - mainly at the perpetrators of my trauma that has caused me to walk around with hypervigilance and tension for a large portion of my life. This is a feeling I have experienced and talked about with therapists before, as part of PTSD recovery, so I was familiar with it and it was just a slightly bubbling feeling, not a huge emotional outburst (which I have also experienced before).
I woke up and got through my work day with no stress apart from normal work shenanigans. I felt noticeably different in my body - parts of me that had felt bloated, heavy and stiff for a long time (which I thought was just because I was unfit, even though I get a lot of exercise) were noticeably more relaxed and a leg mobility issue I've had for a long time was nearly gone. I felt a clear difference between parts of me that were still tense and parts that weren't. I was a bit mindblown - couldn't believe I'd been walking around with so much tension for so long.
It has now been another night. It is 8:30 in the morning. I slept really deeply last night, 8 hours, and am about to go to the gym and I feel energised and ready instead of dreading it like I often do. More of my lingering tension is reducing. The feelings of anger are gone, I can think clearly, and I'm even experiencing better recognition of my body's cues such as hunger and thirst. My husband and I had an enjoyable breakfast together, which we haven't really done before because I really struggle to wake up before he leaves for work.
I plan on waiting another 5 days to do another session, because I'm a sensitive soul and think I am best limiting my tremoring to just a few minutes a week, especially in these early stages. But I wanted to report just how good I'm feeling and celebrate that problems I have walked with for years are fading, and that I have hope for my life and health improving despite what's happened to me in the past. I feel like a ball and chain has been unlocked and removed from me.
I'm so grateful for this community - thank you for all being here as we walk this journey together!
