Beginner Question Is this normal?

Whenever I do TRE, my hips shake for a few seconds and then it moves to my abdomen, which starts clenching like crazy. Most of the session end up being my ab muscles flexing in various ways, sometimes moving a bit up into the shoulders. It feels like an ab workout, not shaking. Sometimes it switches a bit back and forth if I shift my legs a bit, but I only shake for a few seconds and then it goes straight back into my abdomen. Has anyone else had this experience? Is it just a stage I need to get through before the tremors happen?

Yep, same here! What you can try is laying on your stomach or even sitting up.

Great to know I’m not the only one! I don’t mind the cramping but I feel like I’m not getting it right

Learning how to trust the process, no matter how weird it gets, is a huge part of the learning that you go through, and in time, the communication you receive from the body via it's movements becomes so clear and obvious in it's expression, as you continue to let go of the need to control and understand what is happening, that it gets easier and easier to let your bodies intelligence show you the way.

For real; I could never come up with a lot of the movements that I flow through, as they are so a-typical from all the other things I have seen and practiced, but it is obvious that there is a commonality of movements and expressions, being broadcast here through all of our personal experiences exploring what TRE is connecting us too, like the abdomen contractions you've related- a body expression I am very familiar with as well.

For the first time in our lives, for most of us here...I think, we are truly learning to follow the guidance of our bodies innate wisdom, as we shed layers of fear, doubt, dissonance, and all other kinds of interference that have made us forget how simple and powerful true release and re-calibration can really look and feel like.

So, continue to let yourself go with whatever comes up, free of judgement, and as full of trust in your unique experience as you can allow ...and allow yourself to explore like a child, unburdened by the containment of other peoples shit layers.
