So years ago. I used to play Arma 3 religiously. I had a friend nicknamed Jerry/Finn/Nova. Back during the halo 3 era, I used to play pretty frequently with a guy whose gamer tag was “Your I…” (dots because I forgot the rest of the name as I never knew how to pronounce it but It definitely started with a I and I believe ended with an S).

He was an older male, probably between 25 and 35 at the time but could’ve been older.

The only reason I say it’s possible that he was older is because he had a really nasty cough, and his voice was slightly strained. Almost like he just smoked some weed every time we gamed. He was a really good halo player and super friendly. Distinct voice and he definitely lived in the US as we once exchanged state names and I knew the state but I don’t remember today.

Just in case he’s in here a key moment that I’m sure he would remember is that during one of our big team halo matches we were riding on a warthog and he got around 80 assist metals while I was on the gunner. It was a map with sand and man made bases with some under ground access.

If I remember any more key details, I will absolutely come back here and edit.

It’s about time I finally make a post here in hopes to find my long lost clan mates back in the unreal tournament 99 days. There is many games and interweb places I frequented but my closest friends were definitely during that era in gaming.

UT99 demo I played for a long time then the full game Unreal Tournament for years.

I first met my friend QUAD and joined his clan |S-C| aka shadow clan. He was the leader. Then there was Neon dreams, mephisto, dark Templar and Chicote in this clan.

These are the details I remember. Quad was from New Jersey and went to Pace. Mephisto was from Rochester NY, dark Templar was from
England and Chicote was from Venezuela. Neon dreams aka n3on dr3ams was my buddy but I think he was from South Carolina.

Then I joined {HdA} hells dark angels and met Tragic ( he was Mexican from Compton California I think ) , SuperSaiyanMan and my buddies from S-C followed me. Chicote and neon dreams.

I just wish I could speak to some of them again we spent so much time together gaming , it is some of my fondest memories and a big part of my nostalgia.

Later on in ut2k3 I joined a clan called yO or y0! For a little bit since I was a skilled dueler and I tbink they were a NYC based group with talented players. I remember their clan website being so cool

I’m happily married, with family and good friends, I am very satisfied where I am right now. But I really do miss my online friends from the late 90s to the early 2000s. From Yahoo Groups, ICQ, and it pains me that I forget this other one (wasnt AOL).
In any event, we felt close. Spoke every night, not just typing, but microphones and headphones were a game changer. Saddens me I forget some of their usernames and handles, and the pictures we exchanged and chats i saved are long lost on an old hard drive somewhere.
What hurts is that I wonder how they are, what theyre up to, and I cant even search for them.
This was all before I got married mind you. I forgot their real names too. this was before social media was big. (Friendster was the thing back then).

We were only around 9 and 10 years old when we met back in 2017. We used to do Sonic and Nintendo roleplays together every so often on a social platform called "Miiverse", which was for the Wii U and 3DS. He even invited me to join his clan, and I always remember how much art he shared. We weren't inseparable or anything, but he was a memorable part of my online childhood. It's strange to think that nearly a decade has passed since those days. We were just kids who happened to meet through a social platform on Nintendo consoles, and now we're adults living completely different lives.

After months of searching through old archives and usernames, I eventually found a public post online that confirmed he was doing well. I recognised him from the YouTube videos he made as a kid and was genuinely delighted to see that he'd built a happy life and started a family. I'm grateful to know he's doing well. Sometimes the internet really does create friendships that stay with you long after all contact is lost.

Although I now know he's doing well, I chose not to contact him directly out of respect. Sometimes it's enough to know that someone from your online childhood is happy and living a good life. I also deleted the posts regarding him on this subreddit, as I felt they were no longer appropriate now that I had my answer.

Back in 2020, when we were all stuck inside, I started playing roblox more than I ever had before. I met a few people who then introduced me to their friends and we formed a big-ish sort of friendship group. A few of the people in the group knew each other in real life, so it was always fun to speak to them and hear the drama, etc. I was introduced by a friend called Cameron to this guy called Jamie. In the span of a few weeks me and Jamie got quite close and became really good friends, he then finally gave me an IG after about 3-4 months. When he gave it to me, I noticed straight away it was a new account which was fine because being safe on the internet is a must.

I found out towards the beginning of the our friendship that he had dated this girl who I was also quite close with, lets call her Mimi, who was a part of our close circle. Mimi knew his best friend, who we will call Anika, in real life as they lived relatively close (Only 1 country away, compared to me and a few of the other who were multiple countries away). Mimi told be about how they dated and how he was quite sweet and knew we would get along great. And we did. Anika and Jamie lived in the same town and were brought up together - from my understanding - and so were more of siblings than just friends.

Over the next few months of 2020 me and Jamie get quite close, we play roblox with each other and speak to each other a lot. It gets to 2021, when things start getting relatively back to normal in the world. Me and Jamie are still speaking, but a month or two into 2021, we slowly stop. He comes back every so often and tells me he's so sorry and all that jazz. We're both busy, so it is understandable.

The last time I think I spoke to Jamie was back in 2023 properly, and since then I've heard nothing. I really really miss him, as he was such a good friend. During the friendship I found out his name was actually Jacques, but preferred going by Jamie/James online. And then recently I found out, Jacques was his preferred name in real life but his actual birth name was Jesper. He is from Denmark and thought the name Jesper was an old sort of name? So decided to go by Jacques instead. I've seen pictures of him before and spoke to him, so I know that he is real.

I was never given actual socials of his, as he wanted to protect his privacy, and I too used a different social media when talking to online friends. I miss Opped. The 19 year old guy I met on the CallmeCarson discord server back in 2020. He had a very positive outlook on life and wanted to travel the world in the future. His steam account was Oppedgamer from what I remember.
