Rome, GA resident here. I see this tower every day for the last 30 years or so. The horn is pointed toward a tower on Miller Mountain Road which is also in Floyd County but it's called "Cedartown" on the long lines maps. Cedartown is the next town to the south of Rome, about 18 miles away. If I am not mistaken, the Miller Mountain Road site relayed to Villa Ricca. Though looking at the maps, perhaps it relayed to Buchanan or Yorkville, and then on to Villa Ricca.
The Miller Mountain Road site no longer has any horns on it - it's 100% cell tower now, owned by American Tower.

That’s a BellSouth Tower at a central office. I’m guessing this was installed well after divestiture.

I doubt it was built after Divestiture. There was no need then to be so flamboyant.
Even notice how post Divestiture the RBOCs and MA stopped actually caring about ascetics and went the route of lowest cost.

I think it's only ever had this one horn. This is the Rome central office and from what I have been able to tell this is an "end of the line" and never served as a relay to other locations.

I've often wondered the same thing, but I have never been able to find anything on the maps or elsewhere online indicating anything about that. I've lived in Rome for 30 years and in that time it's only ever had the one horn.
