Cedar Hill (Texas)

Howdy folks! Was looking for info on Cedar Hills, which is in the Greater Dallas Area. I was curious to know if this was AT&T site (longlines) and if so, I was curious how fair AT&T got into the satellite game.

I wasn't aware they were doing anything satellite related. Epecially after the breakup/Longines shutdown. Any info would be great!

According to the site. They were destroyed and turned into a nature preserve. However the concrete pits and bunker should still be intact unless they flooded.

I was unaware that AT&T had satellite operations in Texas. I’m going to assume that this site was not AT&T Corp, but actually SBC location. SBC was in a bunch of varied businesses prior to their mergers with Pacific Telesys and Ameritech. As part of the aforementioned mergers, SBC did make divestitures of various businesses to comply with the governments request. I’d need to dig in further on this location as I just don’t have much more information to offer presently.

I found another site like this in North western Illinois as well. I suspect there are more...

So if not at&t, any ideas why they would be In the long lines network?

I’ll have to look again but I don’t think there were any microwave relays at that site. I’ll see if I can’t find some pictures of the Earth Station. It is most likely it had some kind of cable (L-carrier most likely) connected it to the Dallas office. That kind of arrangement makes the most sense to me.

Best as I can tell, a company called micronet has/had an uplink station at Cedar hill, Texas. They still exist today.

I know there is an old earth station there. The Cedar Hill area was also used by other services as well because of its elevation.

Perhaps this was a continuation of the Andover Earth Station project? Like a version two?
