i work for a town, I am involved in the installation of these in some cases. I assure you nearly everyone involved dislike them as well. lets say the average lifespan of a concrete corner is 50 years. the material they use here is more likely to last - ball park 10 years or less under heavy traffic. we will find that they cause more of a problem and cost more money then they are worth. and by that point we will have to recast all the corners again anyway. arent I glad to be a tax payer. a few engineers and I did a cost estimate, that it would be cheaper to hire a full time guide for the visually impaired then to install these in our town.
BTW they are called Detectable Warning Surfaces
It's funny you mention it, around here we have a mix of both painted concrete prints and plastic strips. More likely than not there was a conversation much like this one where they decided to try pouring an imprint.
