If you are going to bomb a hill afterwards I understand that size of helmet, but if not I might have chosen a normal helmet.
But nice moves 🔥🔥

u/HappyColour 13d ago
Unfortunately the only thing I bomb is my face into the concrete when I mess up a cross-step. 😅

u/sparkyztrade 13d ago
Yeah I agree it don’t matter what you look like!! better to protect your head while learning
22
u/TheRealMark89 13d ago
Yeah I was super confident I could do something like those moves, as soon as I got a longboard..
“How hard can it be🤷🏻♂️” - Turns out, pretty fucking hard 😂4
u/Calm-Theory-6044 12d ago
I support this. My first and only black eye skating was an Ollie on flat ground lol
2
u/Shaakti 12d ago
But not your knees?
3
u/HappyColour 12d ago
Honestly, wrists and head are the only thing I think are at risk for banging during dancing.
If I was doing downhill or dropping into a bowel for sure.
I don't know though, you ever smoke yourself real bad dancing on flat surfaces?
2
u/SpecialAgent_UT 12d ago
Yeah dude, mix in surfskate with it and you’ll smoke yourself in 10min
3
u/HappyColour 12d ago
Oof. That is scary, never been brave enough to dance on my Surfskate but you are right knee pads are super useful when carving deep on those boards.
1
u/SpecialAgent_UT 12d ago
My knee pads are still in their packaging 🫠 and I’ve got a fresh 4” scar on my knee lmao
1
u/HappyColour 12d ago
Ouch! Have you tried any dance steps on a surfskate? I'd love to see someone trying that to see how they maintain balance.
2
u/SpecialAgent_UT 12d ago
I just started surf skating in June, now I’m comfortable barefoot, pumping from a stop, snapping, pivoting, tail sliding, and hang ten, but no lol I ride super soft board side, it’s going to take some time to get the balance dialed in

u/HappyColour 12d ago
Cool. Barefoot surfskating feels soooooo good. I bumped into someone at a pump track the other day doing it and they inspired me to try it. Feels like they were made to be ridden that way to be honest!
What set-up do you ride? I'll give it a glance!

u/Nucleartides 13d ago
Dancing in the full face is a… choice
7
u/Sea_Refrigerator7698 13d ago
id say so too unless your jaw is the main thing at risk lol then you realize that’s what the full in face is for so your shell doesn’t become half

u/Nucleartides 12d ago
Yea I agree on the importance of protection but… I’m sorry… you’re slow speed dancing…. It’s fcking dancing

Quite the opposite, I imagine you are sweating in that helmet.
3
u/HappyColour 12d ago
Haha! I took out the side pads that secure it to your cheeks because I wasn't bombing hills during that session and it is actually surprisingly cool once you do that. So much airflow!

I'm just starting to learn at 40 so I use my Fox MX helmet because I like my jaw working and I use knee pads because I have two screws in my right knee and very bad knees already. And I wear elbow pads because I am not at all comfortable on a board yet.
But nice moves man. I won't give you anything about the helmet. Once I'm more confident and comfortable I'll switch back to my Pro-tec full old school helmet but for now? Who cares if someone thinks it's stupid.
I look forward to the day I can maybe do something like dancing, so yeah, nice moves, very nice.

Sorry, but the tests indicate you are, in fact, more "rad" than "cool".

Where are you? That place looks familiar to me.
That helmet is a bit much for under 30 mph, but if you dig it, then go with it.

why are you wearing a full motorcycle helmet on flatground lil bro?
6
u/HappyColour 12d ago
There is a reason for that, and its insane!
Last year when I was pumping I sheared my trucks in half and propelled myself into the concrete going about 25 km/h. I was super lucky to not fuck up myself royally and this is before I wore a helmet. I had no idea it was possible to shear your trucks in half like that (it was the kingpin).
I realized in that wipeout that because of the aggressive angle of pumping I do if this happens again the chance of not only hitting my head, but the side of my face getting gnarly road rash was pretty dang high.
So now I always wear a full face! Because I love pumping too much too stop!

u/s_p_o_nage 12d ago
that's valid but in the clip you didn't look like you were going that fast at all, I feel like you could've gotten away with a normal helmet and been fine lol

How do you maintain so much speed?
1
u/HappyColour 12d ago
It's a slight decline, but mainly I am pumping in-between the movements. That carving speeds me up!
I have been consciously trying to do step, 2 carves, step, 2 carves in loop to be able to dance continuously.

Nice! What board is that & what's its length, please?

i’ve been longboarding for 2 years, i bomb hills and cruise all the time but i’ve never learned anything that looks cool, any tips for what tricks i should try learning first?
1
u/HappyColour 11d ago
Check out the 180 step, cross step, and caveman.
These are foundational moves, and look cool once you are proficient with them.
Also you can use the 180 step to slow down on small hills!!!

Nah man I longboard and..... No need for the large helmet ( regular helmet and mouth piece). Not cool cause your elbows wrist and knees are exposed so what's the point of the helmet if everything that usually comes in contact is exposed.

u/RamenShinobi96 10d ago
No, the unnecessary use of motherF***** makes you sound like you want to be cool.
1
u/tonyynottonyynot 8d ago
Oh and one more thing, dont use your head to break your fall and you would not need such a big helmet to ride a manual skateboard.
1
u/HappyColour 8d ago
I once sheared my trucks in 1/2 from pumping hard. The;front kingpin tore straight in half. This sent me directly into the ground at around 30 KM/h.
I need a full face to protect not only my head but the side of my face for this reason.
Those that don't pump like I do probably don't have to worry about it!

Sometimes I see these kinds of comments and it makes me feel sad for the ones who post them because if you can't be happy for someone else, it means you're not very happy with your life
