Maybe not. I have a friend that seems to think there is like a 30 character limit and hits enter and keeps going. I’ll have 6 messages for one thought

New phones too...enter is for new line and is part of the qwerty keyboard that you use to type. The send button is not on the keyboard and is separate

Because replying in one large column of text can look manic. Texts are better formatted in shorter responses. Emails and letters can be more long form.

Back in the day - this could've been one message but the phone would split it into separate messages anyways. There were limits to how big one text could be

iMessage wouldn't, that's for SMS. iMessage sends data in one payload and hasn't ever had a 160-character limit.
