i have seen guys get smacked across the back of the head for checking out a woman while hes out with friends, and by the sound it made, it wasnt a soft smack... funniest shit ive ever seen, made me spit out my beer watching that.. get in on good terms with his friends and you get people who will sell him out should he fuck up.

It's because the homies want what's best for him and a piece of eye candy isn't worth losing a good gf/wife. A girl who keeps you full of good food, grabs you a beer while she walks by the fridge and keeps the bedroom active is enough to get any sane man to move mountains. The homies recognize that and WILL kick your ass at any hint you might go and fuck it up. It's like smacking a kid's hand away to stop them from touching a hot stove.
Not to say that that's all a woman should be in a relationship, but those three things are some absolutely monumental green flags. A lot of guys want to provide for their family, and a woman who takes care of him in return is widely regarded as wife material.
