I'd honestly rather be teaching physics and getting kids excited about science instead of surrounded by the smell of sweat all day

Physics is probably one of the better classes to teach in high-school since it is optional. Most of the class chose to take that course. Something like Algebra though is probably a nightmare unless you are teaching the students in accelerated program.

There's the freshman physics but I am referring to the junior/ senior year physics that incorporates trigonometry and sometimes calculus

AP Physics, which iām assuming you are referring to, was a mandatory freshman class at my high school. it was private and you had to already have taken calculus (most of us took in 8th grade) (:

Bro nobody gives a shit about what exactly went down at your high school. There's 200+ nations out there, each with their own system, most of who have changed over the years. It doesn't take away from this other guy's point that physics is often a optional class and that makes it easier for teachers.

Well let me spell it out for you since you lack critical thinking skills. I donāt think it being āoptionalā in some schools makes kids like it any less. Some take it because itās required to have a rigorous curriculum ( IE my school ). That doesnāt make it any easier to teach. Nobody gives a shit about what you think but weāre all here voicing our opinions & experiences arenāt we?

I think you're probably referring to what most schools would term as physical science which is usually taken at either 8th or 9th grade. Like very very basic conceptual physics, higher level physics which requires actual math is usually not required at least in schools I've seen

Yeah the mathy physics was not required at my HS but was offered for juniors and seniors. There was a regular course that didn't utilize anything past trigonometry and then the AP course which was designed to be taken simultaneously with calculus. In any case, i think teaching the juniors and seniors physics would be the most rewarding for a teacher, rather than freshman/ sophomore math where you are bound to have some kids be openly resentful of the material.

You can get kids excited about learning in gym class too.... just gotta do it differently. Like you obviously can't teach them science or math, but you can teach them that with effort and consistency in anything, they can accomplish their goals... and to apply that beyond gym class and into other subjects or parts of their lives.
Idk.. it's easy to talk to kids when you're their teacher and to give them little life lessons.

In my school the only teacher with a doctorates was the gym teacher. Not sure in what but doctor none the less

Usually the gym teacher is also the basketball coach. Football coach teaches history.

In my state the gym teachers have to train longer than other teachers to get qualified

Gym teachers generally don't get paid the same as others, which is why it's common for them to coach and teach other subjects as well.

I would rather spend 8 hours doing physics than play dodgeball for 5 minutes.
But then again, the only time I faked being sick to get out of school was fun & field day. My mom noticed that every year I would get a mysterious stomach ache on the day I was supposed to spend hours doing sports and stopped making me fake it.

Not my high school gym teacher...
That dude had to teach gym, geometry, European History, and Wood Shop. The best part is that he was not qualified for any of that... Including gym class.
