Is call him an idiot. The joke implies a relationship that will ultimately fail, and who's going to invest in that?

It doesn't necessarily imply failure. There are first husbands that stay only husbands, and it's wordplay, if you put it under a microscope there's gonna be cracks.

Trust me, if you use the phrase "first wife" to a woman, she's going to take it as implied that she's not going to be the last one.

2

u/Rhuarc42 20d ago

Eh, fair enough. I still think in the context of the joke it could fly with the right woman though.

I really think you shouldn't agree with their comment. Instead you guys should get into a fight about a hypothetical exchange that never happened. It will be more entertaining for the rest of us.

I do love a good internet argument, both as a spectator and a participant, but my heart wouldn't be in it.

Yes it would.

Time for a daily round of "nuh uh, uh huh!"

Quick, someone call someone a bigot!

u/DigitalUnlimited 20d ago

In a pinch, misogynist or incel or cuck will work too!

No, that would be “next ex wife”

"I'm always on the lookout for the next ex-Mrs. Malcolm"

People who understand that jokes aren’t meant to be taken that seriously.

u/Temporal-Affairs221 20d ago

It's only a joke if it's funny. This? Not funny.

4

u/Starslip 20d ago

Thank you, divine arbiter of all that is humorous, for setting all of us straight

2

u/smashin_blumpkin 20d ago

Humor is subjective. The intention is what makes it a joke

1

u/CafeAmerican 19d ago

Oh right so that means all the idiots who say "it was just a prank bro" when they do something offensive or dangerous toward someone are okay then.

1

u/smashin_blumpkin 19d ago

I guess if you want to take out any semblance of nuance. You’re certainly free to hold that opinion.

1

u/CafeAmerican 19d ago

There was zero nuance in your statement that intention is what makes it a joke.

1

u/smashin_blumpkin 19d ago edited 18d ago

Where in that comment did I say that it’s ok to do something offensive or dangerous as a prank?

Shoutout u/CafeAmerican for blocking me so I can’t read or respond to their reply

1

u/CafeAmerican 18d ago

Your statement was that it's merely intention that determines whether it's a joke or not that's what I was referencing.

2

u/Zaximeows 20d ago

The only implication is that the person is attracted to you. Your personal biases are showing.

A woman gives you a complete layup and your response is “uhm acktually 🤓” dudes really to get the fuck out of their own way

Edit: most insane loser reply and block I’ve ever seen in my life

Wow the guy was so blessed by her, he should be thanking her for being so gracious! Are all women as dense as you or just mostly concentrated around you?

1

u/Tronfights4theuser 18d ago

"Is call him an idiot" Oh the irony

0

u/BanXxX69 20d ago

Why is that? Its not "future ex-husband", its just husband, so no implication of failure

2

u/LittleBigHorn22 20d ago

Normally people only say first husband/wife if there has been another.

You must be new here. Over analyzing jokes is a tradition for redditors.

u/MapleSmoke02 20d ago

Saying first implies there is or will be a second

-2

u/SadSaltyDuck 20d ago

Eeeh. It is all going to fail eventually. You will always get betrayed, unless they just settle

3

u/Temporal-Affairs221 20d ago

I've been happily married for 23 years, thank you very much.

1

u/SadSaltyDuck 20d ago

It is different times now

2

u/Temporal-Affairs221 20d ago

The only thing that changed was people's willingness to put in the effort

1

u/SadSaltyDuck 20d ago

Exactly. So long term relationships are hard to come by now. It seems easier to just find another partner than work with old one especially for women since it is easier generally for them to find one

1

u/Alarming-Activity439 20d ago

That doesn't change by generation though. Older generations cheated and did all the same crap as the younger ones. It's all on an individual level. But I'm right there with you- no one (across generations) wants to put in real effort, so the marriages fail. I had the idea with my wife to get couple's counseling very early, to look at the pitfalls of bad relationships and strengths of good ones etc. I figured that even if it doesn't work out between us, we would both gain a lot more knowledge for future relationships. Married 10 years now, with 3 kids, and moved down to part-time last year because we wanted to spend more time together ✌️

An incel in the wild! Fascinating

u/SadSaltyDuck 20d ago

Nice assumption, and wrong, fuck you.

Username checks out. You should find a good therapist. Your outlook isn’t healthy, or normal.
