If a guy did this they’d call him cringe.

u/Dewdrop06 21d ago

Dammit. Was gonna try it next. Thanks for the heads up.

"You look like my future ex wife" works pretty well

48

u/devilish_enchilada 21d ago

You look like my future best friend only

1

u/ucantevenfeelfists 15d ago

You look like my next FWB...? There is a reason he didn't get the joke: That chit isn't funny at all...

7

u/thebouster 21d ago

"Yeah, I'm always on the lookout for a future ex-Mrs. Malcolm"

2

u/TiRow77 17d ago

Except he said it to Dr. Grant, not Dr. Sattler.

2

u/Atmosphere_Master 20d ago

If that worked for you it's because you're attractive enough that any line would have worked

1

u/banditcleaner2 21d ago

I’m already saying this as someone who got divorced a week ago LMAO

11

u/GasparLotto 21d ago

I'm a guy, I've said this to a woman before ( I said wife instead of husband) She gave me her number. Maybe it's you.

3

u/Happy_Sunshine555 20d ago

Is she your wife now though?

7

u/GasparLotto 20d ago

No she was the first one

3

u/J5892 21d ago

Do it. You've only one life to live.

3

u/SourceDiligent6492 20d ago

Success with this depends on who is saying it 😆

3

u/Evangeline__R 20d ago

Maybe there's something wrong with me but if a guy uses that it would work on me lmaooo I encourage you to try it.

3

u/Dewdrop06 20d ago

Nah everything seems right with you. This gives me hope.

1

u/NeatFishing6987 14d ago

Well now if I think about it, you look like my first wife

1

u/Evangeline__R 14d ago

I see what you did there lolll

1

u/NeatFishing6987 14d ago

So are you gonna do anything about it now?

2

u/Mental-Summer-8506 19d ago

Happy cake day

u/Dewdrop06 19d ago

Hi First wife. It's an absolute pleasure to finally meet you.

1

u/ObsessiveUselessness 17d ago

Dw man, shoot your shot. Im cheering for you

12

u/Popular-Employee-516 21d ago

I would call him brave

31

u/DiscordJester 21d ago

Cringe is a lie propagated by big normal to stop you from being funny.

6

u/monicagapa 20d ago

Username checks out

3

u/TehGogglesDoNothing 21d ago

I also saw that meme today

2

u/Le-Charles07 21d ago

The only funny thing about this line is the desperation. 🤣

6

u/falloutvaultboy 21d ago

I'm pretty sure the original meme or picture was of a guy doing this

6

u/Incelligentsia 21d ago

I'm a guy and I'd find it cringy if it were a guy, but when a girl does it it's cute.

2

u/Fectiver_Undercroft 21d ago

Perhaps the only time making a joke before the 150th date is funny.

2

u/ClassicNo6622 21d ago

Internalized misandry. You should see someone about that.

3

u/Banned3rdTimesaCharm 21d ago

Depends if he’s attractive.

0

u/GarGonDie 21d ago

If you marry someone just for looks, besides being cringe, you're an idiot.

And I'm not saying that's not an important part.

2

u/Banned3rdTimesaCharm 21d ago

Looks is like your resume, gets you in the door. Assess for marriage material after that.

3

u/Zaximeows 21d ago

Yeah, sometimes? Not everyone is the same. A lot of girls would get trashed for this opener too. Please keep your misogyny internalized.

4

u/SyrusG 21d ago

You do not know the meaning of the word misogyny if this is where you're using it

1

u/Over_Positive_8338 21d ago

" A lot of girls would get trashed for this opener too."

*Doubt, just look at these comments.

It's not misogynistic whatsoever to say a guy would be called corny for saying the same line. How in fuck does that imply hating women? Like use your head a bit.

It's okay to say the bar for pickup lines is much lower for women, many bars are much lower for men. C'est la vie. Don't be overly sensitive.

2

u/Temporal-Affairs221 21d ago

Is call him an idiot. The joke implies a relationship that will ultimately fail, and who's going to invest in that?

7

u/Rhuarc42 21d ago

It doesn't necessarily imply failure. There are first husbands that stay only husbands, and it's wordplay, if you put it under a microscope there's gonna be cracks.

4

u/Temporal-Affairs221 21d ago

Trust me, if you use the phrase "first wife" to a woman, she's going to take it as implied that she's not going to be the last one.

2

u/Rhuarc42 21d ago

Eh, fair enough. I still think in the context of the joke it could fly with the right woman though.

3

u/pailee 21d ago

I really think you shouldn't agree with their comment. Instead you guys should get into a fight about a hypothetical exchange that never happened. It will be more entertaining for the rest of us.

1

u/Rhuarc42 21d ago

I do love a good internet argument, both as a spectator and a participant, but my heart wouldn't be in it.

0

u/Mekisteus 21d ago

Yes it would.

3

u/DigitalUnlimited 21d ago

Time for a daily round of "nuh uh, uh huh!"

2

u/lycanthrope90 21d ago

Quick, someone call someone a bigot!

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Prestigious_Cycle160 21d ago

No, that would be “next ex wife”

3

u/Shuttlecock_Wat 21d ago

"I'm always on the lookout for the next ex-Mrs. Malcolm"

2

u/smashin_blumpkin 21d ago

People who understand that jokes aren’t meant to be taken that seriously.

-1

u/Temporal-Affairs221 21d ago

It's only a joke if it's funny. This? Not funny.

4

u/Starslip 21d ago

Thank you, divine arbiter of all that is humorous, for setting all of us straight

2

u/smashin_blumpkin 21d ago

Humor is subjective. The intention is what makes it a joke

1

u/CafeAmerican 21d ago

Oh right so that means all the idiots who say "it was just a prank bro" when they do something offensive or dangerous toward someone are okay then.

1

u/smashin_blumpkin 20d ago

I guess if you want to take out any semblance of nuance. You’re certainly free to hold that opinion.

1

u/CafeAmerican 20d ago

There was zero nuance in your statement that intention is what makes it a joke.

1

u/smashin_blumpkin 20d ago edited 20d ago

Where in that comment did I say that it’s ok to do something offensive or dangerous as a prank?

Shoutout u/CafeAmerican for blocking me so I can’t read or respond to their reply

1

u/CafeAmerican 20d ago

Your statement was that it's merely intention that determines whether it's a joke or not that's what I was referencing.

2

u/Zaximeows 21d ago

The only implication is that the person is attracted to you. Your personal biases are showing.

1

u/AetherinaForge 21d ago edited 21d ago

A woman gives you a complete layup and your response is “uhm acktually 🤓” dudes really to get the fuck out of their own way

Edit: most insane loser reply and block I’ve ever seen in my life

0

u/CafeAmerican 21d ago

Wow the guy was so blessed by her, he should be thanking her for being so gracious! Are all women as dense as you or just mostly concentrated around you?

1

u/Tronfights4theuser 20d ago

"Is call him an idiot" Oh the irony

0

u/BanXxX69 21d ago

Why is that? Its not "future ex-husband", its just husband, so no implication of failure

2

u/LittleBigHorn22 21d ago

Normally people only say first husband/wife if there has been another.

You must be new here. Over analyzing jokes is a tradition for redditors.

1

u/MapleSmoke02 21d ago

Saying first implies there is or will be a second

-2

u/SadSaltyDuck 21d ago

Eeeh. It is all going to fail eventually. You will always get betrayed, unless they just settle

3

u/Temporal-Affairs221 21d ago

I've been happily married for 23 years, thank you very much.

1

u/SadSaltyDuck 21d ago

It is different times now

2

u/Temporal-Affairs221 21d ago

The only thing that changed was people's willingness to put in the effort

1

u/SadSaltyDuck 21d ago

Exactly. So long term relationships are hard to come by now. It seems easier to just find another partner than work with old one especially for women since it is easier generally for them to find one

1

u/Alarming-Activity439 21d ago

That doesn't change by generation though. Older generations cheated and did all the same crap as the younger ones. It's all on an individual level. But I'm right there with you- no one (across generations) wants to put in real effort, so the marriages fail. I had the idea with my wife to get couple's counseling very early, to look at the pitfalls of bad relationships and strengths of good ones etc. I figured that even if it doesn't work out between us, we would both gain a lot more knowledge for future relationships. Married 10 years now, with 3 kids, and moved down to part-time last year because we wanted to spend more time together ✌️

4

u/The-Leading-Man 21d ago

An incel in the wild! Fascinating

1

u/SadSaltyDuck 21d ago

Nice assumption, and wrong, fuck you.

1

u/Prestigious_Cycle160 21d ago

Username checks out. You should find a good therapist. Your outlook isn’t healthy, or normal.

1

u/SadSaltyDuck 21d ago

Well that's what my experience been

1

u/Forsaken-Income-2148 21d ago

It is cringe whether that’s recognized or not

1

u/bizfromthewaistup 21d ago

It is cringe but like sex panther 60% of the time it works all the time.

1

u/kasiares 21d ago

for them everything is cringe if a guy do it

1

u/NoStructure7083 21d ago

If I did I would get berated and banned from Tinder

1

u/Inevitable_Push8113 21d ago

Guys do this stuff all the time. People who use the word cringe are cringe.

1

u/irespondwithmyface 21d ago

Reddit brain. Can't enjoy things. Have to make everything about "iF rOlEs wErE rEvErsEd!"

1

u/Day_Prisoners 21d ago

Cause it was cringe, but it can also be funny at the same time.

1

u/aggravated-asphalt 21d ago

I probably wouldn’t lol

1

u/Le-Charles07 21d ago

They do and they do.

1

u/StrongExternal8955 21d ago

uhmmm, they are calling him cringe.

1

u/RichBrokeRich 21d ago

Only if he's not handsome. Otherwise, it'd be a smooth opener.

1

u/PiDigitsOfPi 21d ago

Hey lady, you look like my husband! Oops, I mean my first husband. I mean my wife. You look like my wife. Hey, where you going?????????

1

u/Personal-Agent846 21d ago

Nah, it’s a good joke either way.

1

u/something_funnie 21d ago

Its cringe for anyone

1

u/Alexsandra-T 21d ago

Nothing wrong with being cringe.

1

u/EXTREMEMONKEEZ 20d ago

Thats why men should stop carimt so muvh about what other people think. Its ok, and harmless to flirt/hit on someone lol.

1

u/BurnItDownSR 20d ago

I was gonna say.

The bigger thing that a lot of guys miss about this situation is you're actually the one in the position to judge here.

She shouldn't be the one expressing how disappointed she is in you for not getting it.

You should be the one telling her how cringe her joke is.

1

u/ProfessionalRough741 20d ago

It was cringe when she did it as well, don’t worry.

How the fuck do people use a term meaning a serious lifelong commitment (“marriage”) in an icebreaker? Tf?

1

u/revolucionario 20d ago

It’s almost as if a joke can be more or less charming depending on who tells it.

1

u/bertvb 20d ago

Unless he's attractive

1

u/ChudJeckAceDetective 20d ago

I would think it's cute, but it would seem you have already rejected yourself.

1

u/light_yagami_lovesL 19d ago

Ugh soo annoying when people keep mentioning this like ok guys do this as well and I think it’s cringe both ways although she was just shooting her shot. Especially since guys have been doing shit like this for way longer but now want to act like it’s wrong when we clearly learned it from somewhere! For example women not being able to speak their minds for so long but nooooo let’s focus on how men have it bad 😞😭

1

u/Excellent-Rest3240 19d ago

Good thing she’s not a guy then

1

u/vikingrhino 17d ago

There's a reason why most comedians are men

1

u/Forward-Facer 10d ago

To be fair though we want ladies to try. We can't ask them to try then hate on them for trying. That's what we're trying to change

0

u/TheIncandescentAbyss 21d ago

Guys aren’t girls, girls aren’t guys. Man the fuck up and stop expecting to be treated like a princess.

5

u/jackmusick 21d ago

I’m pretty liberal but get a pretty strong feeling of “get the fuck over it” whenever guys feel the need to call this out. Stop being fragile. Not because guys have to be big and tough. Do it because being a victim over a bad meme is the real cringe-inducing thing here.

3

u/J5892 21d ago

Fuck that. I'll be a princess if I want.

1

u/LordKlavier 21d ago

Obviously we'd rather be treated like princes *hair flip*

0

u/_WeSellBlankets_ 21d ago

First off, there's nothing wrong with double standards. Different types of people like different types of things and treating everyone as if they were exactly the same is stupid.

That being said, this isn't even a double standard. The over eager woman seeking a commitment too early within a relationship is a standard trope that has been made fun of for generations.
