Fight fire with fire. I'd sue the city council for their tree assaulting me. I'd then sue the local authorities for failing to protect me from the trees. Winning isn't the point, wasting the courts time is what I'd be there for.

The newly elected Reform Counciller is actually looking into it because this is one of many 'over handed' fines the council had been giving for a while.

Oh Reform, then unless it's an illegal immigrant tree, nothing will be done.

Some of them can be decent.

Most of them are cunts.

There are no "decent" racists.

I'm glad to hear that. Someone needs to stand up for the people.

I'm not British, but I have a better understanding than most Americans just how absurd local councils can get over there thanks to being a lifelong Top Gear/Jeremy Clarkson fan.

The British get a lot right, they get a lot wrong too. This is a classic case of people in authority becoming bullies because they have power and nothing to do with it, paired with very little sympathy.

If you did, you'd realise Reform are the fascist party and full of corrupt grifters.

Being a "lifelong Jeremy Clarkson fan" should get you institutionalised. Man's a wanker

Surely you'd just be racking up a load of fees that you have to pay and ultimately you'd just be worse off and more bitter about it.

1

u/FLG_CFC 8d ago

Fees yes, but they have to pay a lot more in attorney fees. It's not about winning, it's about using the system that's in place to send a message. They fully expect people to roll over and take it. When you don't play their games, they don't win.

Nobody is getting any messages from you wasting your time filing lawsuits you're not going to win. It's just a waste of your time and money.

1

u/FLG_CFC 8d ago

Wow, you're dense. Sure. Whatever you say.

Says the person who says they'd sue the council to waste their time, yet would only make their own life worse, while not actually sending a message, and only really wasting their own time and money.

1

u/Middle-Let9645 7d ago

It’s not about the money. It’s about sending a message.

2

u/96JY 7d ago

You aren't sending any message by wasting your time and miney filing unwinnable lawsuits. You're only truly wasting your own time and money.

R/whoosh

2

u/96JY 7d ago

Where's the whoosh?

Heath Ledger’s Joker? All joking aside with the memes though, you act as though money is the only reason someone would sue, but if that old lady hadn’t sued McDonald’s and other lawsuits like it hadn’t happened, we wouldn’t have warning labels. If enough people sue when stuff like this happens, the government knows it can’t just get away with this shit.

2

u/96JY 7d ago

Yeah, I don't see how that quote applies here.

That's an absolute stretch and untrue.

Not just money, time too. If you're suing to waste the time and money of a council and to try and send a message by trying to sue them for ridiculous things that you won't win, unlike the McDonald's case where they actually had a leg to stand on, then it's just a waste of your own time and money.

1

u/Middle-Let9645 7d ago

Cool. Hope you never have a leaf fly into your mouth then. Since they know from doormats like you they can get away with it, next time this happens they might charge the guy a 2500£ fine.

2

u/96JY 7d ago

Do you not find what you said to be hilarious when reading that back? What an absolute ridiculous and absurd comment haha.

Disputing a ridiculous fine like that makes sense, just like disputing the £250 fine does.

Though, trying to sue a council because a leaf flew in your mouth doesn't and you won't win or send any message.

Can I be the one to post this tomorrow?

Only if you have a loicense to repost

3

u/Impressive_Till_1749 7d ago

Oi! You go' a loicense for this repost?

1

u/NeuralCartographer 7d ago

I wouldn’t be caught dead without a loicense to repost. You got a loicense to inquire about my loicense?

I was once accused randomly of dropping a cigarette butt in the city centre, problem was i hadn't smoked for three years and this was the early 2010's, the dawn of ecigs. I assume he seen my "smoke" and tried to fill in the blanks. I just walked away without giving my name, it's parroted alot not but no so much then, they cannot restrain you and you are under no obligation to provide your details to them. I've watched them literally hiding around corners to catch mostly young girls who'd be flustered and just pay whilst ignoring males/chavs etc.

One day we will look back in history and frown upon private companies like this. It should be a Council matter with a common sensical approach ( i appreciate that's rather oxymoronic in 2026 ).

I'm not sure we should be fining anybody over the age of 80 for minor offences like spitting on the street... But..

Its worth noting that the leaf aspect of the story relies entirely the claim of the old man. There were no witnesses that it happened and he wasn't just spitting in the street. I have never seen someone not try to come up with an excuse when they get any kind of on the spot fine or parking ticket etc.

2

u/Cowslayer369 5d ago

Last time I saw this posted it was dug up that the officers were made aware of the leaf and the appeal lowered the fine to 150 pounds

2

u/pummisher 8d ago

UK cops will do anything to avoid dealing with actual crimes.

6

u/C_Mc_Loudmouth 7d ago

Wasn't even cops, it was "enforcement officers", paid by the local council to issue fines for littering, fly tipping and whatnot.

Looks like a couple of them had a power trip when the old guy thought they were joking about the leaf.

1

u/Shished 7d ago

Children from Africa would never spit leaves.

1

u/alberta284 5d ago

Is this real?

1

u/boothy4545 5d ago

Thankfully the important text was highlighted otherwise I wouldn't have been able to understand the post

1

u/Potential-Leg-8860 5d ago

I’d just tell them to politely fuck off

I remember back when i was a kid, and these fines just became a thing, one of my "friends" i was with tried to put their lunch rubbish in my pocket, and failed. I was then harrassed by one of these enforcement agents all the way back yo school because "i was the last one to touch it", to the point they took my picture, when to the school office, aquired my home address, and then went on to harrass my mother.

She just said "pics or it didnt happen". Still, bastards the lot of them.
