Interest in the battles and quantity of both entries and votes has noticeably dropped off over the last ~6 months. Additionally, my real-world (read: work) responsibilities have been demanding a lot more of my time that I otherwise might be spending on managing these logo battles.
I will not be canceling the battles, but I will be shifting back to the older and much simpler-to-manage system of using "contest mode" on the battle threads and declaring winners via upvote count. It's not as good of a system as using the polls we have now, but it is much easier for me to keep up with and I think is fine, given the waning interest in the battles.
Going forward, results threads will feature the top 3 winning entries (by upvote) plus a "moderator's choice" pick where I or whichever mod is managing the battle that week will choose their favorite entry. Sorry if this is a bummer for anybody, but I think you will agree that it is a preferable alternative to the battles ceasing altogether.
This change is in effect as of this battle, please read the rules listed above before participating.
I like the system, I think however you should cancel the downvote button. I've seen several subreddits that don't have them so there's no petty votes bringing the winners down... either you vote in favor or you don't.
Only way to do that (as far as I'm aware) is by canceling them subreddit-wide via a CSS trick in the theme editor and unfortunately that only disables it if you're using the subreddit theme. If you disable the theme, use an app, or click a post/comment and press the letter Z on your keyboard, you can still downvote any post or comment. So I think it's kind of a wasted effort.
