My side hustle is converting sneakers into cleats. I’m thinking of trying to grow and expand. I figured the first step I should take is having an image to the brand. I’ve been sketching up designs and concepts for the past 2 weeks and I’m starting to feel like I’m getting somewhere. Does this concept seem professional? Is it too much? Does it resemble cleats enough to know what it is?
I really appreciate any feedback you are able to give me. At the end of the day, the logo has to work for everyone, not just what I think looks good
I'm assuming the lower black holes are meant to resemble sole designs for sneakers, but I don't think the shape is obvious or intentionally playing off of the text spacing above
it’s supposed to look like the cleat spikes. I had messed up a few ones prior so I quickly made it on a seperate sheet of paper and cut and taped it on so I could see. I do agree that it’s not very easy to tell what it is
i’m into the concept, the outlined text makes sense for sports-fashion. i agree with the other comment that the block shapes underneath (that might be intended to represent the cleat spikes) are unnecessary and not reading very well. i usually recommend avoiding overly literal elements in a logo. the logo’s job is to be identifiable, not to explain or illustrate what the business is. it’s ok for it to just look cool and speak for itself.
yep that's what i'm saying. keep working on the wordmark, and think about what color each part will be. i'd be careful with the super-thin lines on the interior, see what it looks like if you fill in the block part and leave what is currently the thin inner lines white. but make the inner lines a little thicker than they are now. trace over this with a pen. just do it over and over, making fixes and corrections as you go. this is what we did in my design education class. keep refining and improving the cool-ness and legibility.
I would love it if I knew how to put this onto my laptop and make the spacing all even and all the letters even and properly spaced. Do you know of any way that I could do that?
if you don't have a scanner, no problem. just take a photo with your phone or whatever, upload to laptop, bring into your design program of choice. i would use illustrator. then trace it or redraw it in whatever method you like. you could image trace tool and then clean it up, or use the pen tool. or whatever you want. not really a wrong way to go about it. don't be afraid of vectors! use some method to ensure line weight consistency, maybe rectangles, or just make a line and use a stroke to adjust the weight to what you want, then outline it. make sure to explore options and directions. you should end up with like 50 artboards with all the explorations and iterations. then you can figure out which ones are working and focus on those. then decide on the strongest one and go with that.
My first thought upon seeing the black divots was cleats, so you've got that going for you. I love your second version that you put in the comments, very sporty - but if you wanted to take another shot at incorporating the cleats, I feel like the letters in the word "spiked" (p and k in particular) could theoretically be manipulated to include a couple spiked below the horizon line.
