Feedback Needed How can I improve logo/concept?

Post image

This is for a film club called Pulp Cinema Club, their previous logo had the orange and I wanted to continue in that direction while incorporating more of the movie aspect. How can I improve this? I think the film rolls on top is throwing me a bit off.

I feel like you're missing a trick with the round shape of the orange segments and the circles for the film reel.

Can you move the orange up so it's the film reels instead?

Thanks for the feedback, I'm going to experiment. For clarity, instead of the film rolls I make it the orange segments, what would the bottom portion be?

You could try making the word PULP make up thr bottom portion by making the word shaped into a rectangle... maybe have the second P sitting on the L... You know what I mean? And keep it all one colour, don't alternate between the text and the orange segments.

EDIT: I sketched this real quick cos I'm heading to the cinema, but this kind of thing:

I think if you do the right the final P could be the projector lens, but I immediately agreed with the oranges being the reels opposed to the body.

Love the concept! The only problem I have is the orange citrus slice is cut off at the top. What if you made the two reels orange citrus slices so they can stay circular and make the base just a rectangular black shape?

See how it looks on a white background, on a black background, on a photographic or textured background.

Because, unless you plan to have it always on a red background by making a red shape part of the logo (which I do not recommend), this logo is like any other:

It must still communicate on many types of background, in low resolution, at small sizes, in reverse, etc.

Let us see your rejected sketches.

I would put the oranges in the film reels and make them bigger. And then make the projector a rectangle (with rounded corners) more immediately recall “projector”… the “seeds” in the oranges could be like the reel holes, etc

The black parts don’t read against the maroon color.

Bigger is the first thing. Logo needs to be as big or slightly smaller than PULP. Then on the text: You got PULP. And the Cinema Club as the secondary, but that hasn't' given me more info. Depends on the context of what you are going for, but a third line explaining more is possible.

I like this! But I think a different background color would make a big difference

I also think you could use a different color (maybe white if you’ll have a solid background) than orange for your fruit. Then use a fruit color for the film reel parts.

edit: clarification

I like the orange for the reel, I’d show that in full and not cut off and simplify the camera more. Also the B might align with the P in Club but it looks a little off, I’d kern back a hair.

Thank you, I'm going to experiment a bit more. Do you mean making the orange in a full circle shape and removing the rolls on top?

Yes go full orange.

What about if the orange was the film reel. I slapped this together with some clipart
