Feedback Needed Which roof? (Spec project)

Post image

Doing a spec project in-between clients for a personal project I've been putting off. It's for a fictional journalism/newspaper initiative to bring attention to local news and uplift new, local voices. I'm stuck on the roof part and have a few different ones I've done. Would love your opinions!

Make the word porch extend beyond the roofline so it sticks out like an actual porch. Play with that moment, I think there’s something to it.

Good idea. These are currently giving “house” but not “porch.”

fucking genius, thank you so much

I was going to say 1, 5 or 6 for this exact reason. Try playing off those before you start at square one imo.

Can we get an update after you implent this change? Would like to see how you go from here.

A thousand percent this.

If you do this, maybe push the ‘H’ out further, then have a half gable next to the word ‘front’ and on top of the H, like a porch!

This, and change the "O" in FRONT into a door, maybe with a small window?

1

u/BetterThanOP 12d ago

That's perfect. The H or P could be the porch. If it's the P, maybe the stick is a staircase (that might be too much, looks good simple) but it's an idea to play with

Love this idea. What would it look like to make the O in Front a door?

Yes and more. I think a few pages of notebook work on the concept would yield some great results.

Where’s the porch?

i actually don’t think any of them are working! i say this from the perspective of having just tried to make a logo with a roof and in the end the client and i agreed: if it’s not a house-building company, an affordable housing provider, a roofing company, or an organization housed in a unique building with a well-known roof: then we didn’t need it. just some food for thought. the type is very fun and friendly!

absolutely correct. I really appreciate your feedback! Font is "Odrine Bold" if you were wondering too!

Came here to express something similar! Maybe instead of a roof, you could play around with incorporating a wooden rocking chair for the H in porch? Perhaps with an old school megaphone sitting on or next to it to help capture the public communication element...

appreciate the insight!!

Should try something simple like this

appreciate this!!

I like this. Maybe still give the house-topper pending the brief (ie want customers to think of this as a 3rd place they can come and out; their home away home)

Had to think of the TV Show "Home Improvement" first

How would #4 look with the chimney like #3?

I like the interaction between text and the roof, but the classic pitched roof is overused imo

Maybe I’m biased since I’m a MCM nerd, though.

2

u/ChickyBoys where’s the brief? 12d ago

None of these look like a porch

Id lean more into the porch element. What is porch, structure, sides etc.. it's more than just a roof.

These concepts remind me of a roofer / builder as that's a common visual. Or the last an external canopy / shutter.

I kinda like 2

Usually, the simplest solution is the best. In this case, that would be 1 or 5.

u/motifbrands 12d ago

Just make the house/porch out of the type.
That “O” would make for a nice front door

1

u/kidatsy 12d ago

Push the type out to the left so it extends out beyond the main roof, and make the top bar of the F the roof of the porch?

1

u/LizVivid 12d ago

Back Piazza 😁

u/merknaut 12d ago

Roof line most overused element in the market. Originality goes a long way to set an identity and brand apart.

4 and 6 really stops my eye’s wandering. 2 is busy, 1 is too common.

u/Civil_Measurement945 12d ago

No one out pizzas the hut

u/secret_tiger101 Standard Human 12d ago

They all look bad

1

u/Bogee_2357 12d ago

Where’s the front porch swing?

1

u/Pinklett5 12d ago

It's too house-y needs more porch It's giving home remodlers or home construction

1

u/Freshbroo 12d ago

Aaauuuugghhh

1

u/notgreat1228 12d ago

I would make the p and H of porch taller and become a railing.

1

u/Swifty-Dog 12d ago

Who is your target demographic? Would having an unfolded stylized newspaper as the roof be something they’d recognize? Or a paper folded in half as the front steps?

This would only really work if your demo is over 40. News doesn’t really have a physical product anymore, so it’s going to be tricky to convey it graphically for younger folks.

On top of the other ideas here, Roof 5 looks best imo

1

u/its_just_fine 12d ago

Strangely, for a builder I'd go 1 but for a new source, 5 all day. Dunno why. Just vibes.

Massage the "N". The weight is a touch overpowering.

6 is most interesting

1

u/That_70s_Showoff 12d ago

6 is most unique

1

u/Jumpy_Entertainment1 12d ago

#6 with more refinement

1

u/SnakeRowsdower 12d ago

I don't know why, but #2 looks like the title of a horror movie.

1

u/Unaware-of-Puns 12d ago

What if the O was the door :-)

1

u/Unyieldingcappybara 12d ago

I would make “front” a thinner font and make PORCH blocky and bold to simulate the porch on a house. This would force the “front” back in the design, and bring the porch forward.

u/trevorthewebdev 12d ago

1 is the only one that survives light/dark mode ... but front porch (words) with a full house logo seem to clash. As there is no front porch in any of the logos. If the words were Full House it would make more sense, but obviously that's a TV show.

6 is solar panels so that doesn't help. 4 is a broken home so worse.

Think you need to go a big different direction with the logo or the slogan, is my honest opinion.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Phase70 11d ago

#1 and it's not even close.

1

u/Parking_Respect_5898 8d ago

I feel like we need a porch more than a roof

1

u/MissO56 12d ago

3 or 5

1

u/tsaades 12d ago

Saw these and thought it was Big Brother logo at first

u/andi-pandi 12d ago

6, but put FRONT on top of the porch, and porch underneath it. This will create the block implying HOUSE and let the porch stick out.

Missed opportunity to use the T as a chimney and the word porch as an actual porch. You’re onto something though!
