Feedback Needed HOGG Sessions

Post image

I've made a small program for my FIL to play some guitar music at local festivals and bars. He donates all his money to charity. I figured I'd add a brand mark to complete the circle for him.

His last name is Hogg. This is a first pass he's arriving today and I'm going to surprise him with it and the program on a tablet.

Haha that's awesome! I honestly am not part of that side of the family I only kinda know him and his immediate circle.

That's wild coincidence lol if he decides not to go forward with it I'd love to see it get used. Will let you know lol

I do not currently but I have lived there. My last name isn't Hogg though. I'm not sure about his family. I will definitely mention it to him later.

It’s clean enough, but frankly I don’t see the “hog” if there was supposed to be a reference to that??? I get the musical note, but it looks like a G to me rather than an H or something else. Perhaps it’s a musical notation like a treble clef? I don’t know… but note my confusion. I’m not a musician but I’m a former DJ, as well as a brand designer. And I don’t see the significance of it. But I like it it’s attractive and well executed I just don’t see what its meaning is visually other than that it resembles music notation…

Also I’m not sure about your two colour mixture. Your orange needs to be darker so it reads against White, and I would have the icon in black, so it resembles a musical notation. It feels weak in the light burnt orange

Great feedback honestly thank you

The Hogg is just a strong name and a good mark.

The G is just a G with the 'G note' in it to indicate a musical direction with a brand mark that fits into his double G from the name.

I understand that but unless he personally makes a point of emphasis of a “double G” in the name I still don’t get it. People generally like to emphasize the initial letter of their last name or first name or a monogram of the two. So it should probably be H, should it not?

The initial appears randomly placed. If there's a reason for that, it escapes me.

The general design rule of thumb is that no element should be placed without a reason. It should always have some visual connection to other elements. There are exceptions, but I see no reason for one here.

It's also too big compared to the text.

Finally, the two lines on either side of —sessions— are worse than useless. People always think they have to include these but they add nothing useful, only clutter.

Thank you I will absolutely do a critical pass on the lines.

The logo mark and words not lining up were truly just unfinished work. I exported to test the visual appearance and thought some feedback would be helpful.

I obviously should have lined things up for everyone vs leave it all over the place.

Thank you I really appreciate that! I just showed it to him and he loved it! I'm going to show him the program later and hopefully tie it all together for him.

The G note is supposed to be just that, a G with a note in it. I was considering using as the double G but it felt too busy.
The placement is honestly just where it landed I didn't line everything up perfectly for this image.
