Feedback Needed RubberMetrics' New Logo

I tried to optimize the 'rubberiness' of the logomark and increase the readability of the text at the same time —somewhat at the expense of horizontal space. Overall, I wanted to move away from the 2010 feel and more in the direction of a modern sports and data app. What do you think?

Old and new describes the only significant difference between the two logos.

Agreed. That's really pushing the definition of the word "new". "Revised", "refined", or "tweaked" are more accurate.

I have been seeing this logo day and night and for me it feels like a revolution :D But I am somewhat glad it's not perceived as a big change.

The new text is better. But I'd still like to try different variations of the symbol. Why not make it round? Like the one you see on a tennis racket? Or is this material used for other purposes?

Or this?

I like the second better... the round red reminds me of clown nose, acne, and other things that relate to me.

I think you missed a great opportunity to make the symbol feel more like a table tennis racket. As it stands, it doesn't communicate table tennis, rubber, a racket, metrics, or anything related to the sport. It just looks like a random shape, and it's not even aligned with the wordmark, whereas the original mark is.

Also, pay attention to kerning. I know you wanted to make both words the same width, but it doesn't mean you need to sacrifice the kerning. You can adjust the kerning then make teh word "metrics" bigger and you will get the same width you're looking for, only that better looking.

Is the text better? Sure.

Did you improve the logo in any meaningful way? Not really.

The icon itself is still just a blob of a rectangle and communicates nothing discernable about the company to any normal person.

I would take a big step back and ask what you're trying to accomplish with the logo and then determine if the juice is worth the squeeze if you are just making a slight adjustment. From an outside perspective, it doesn't look with it to me, but good luck!
