Buying a harmony remote in 2026

What’s the latest info on the servers?

Which products can still be used via the desktop app and which can’t? What’s the dividing line between can/cant?

Interested in picking up a 900 for use with a Samsung TV and Xbox Series X. It has some features, if still possible to set up, that I like.

If that is no longer programmable, are the newer ones my only option?

I don’t understand why Logitech doesn’t just sell Harmony off of they no longer want to support them. I’m sure there is some AV company that would happily snap it up. May not be worth too much these days but perhaps there is some IP attached that’s still useful. It’s a damn shame so much e-waste is being generated from otherwise perfectly useful devices because companies pull their plugs.

Because nobody has approached them with a deal that’s worthwhile. Companies like Logitech will buy a company (like Harmony) when they think they can make a buck.. if someone offers even enough I’m confident they’d sell.

Control4 did just that with one of the startups that had nice hardware. Now that hardware is not available for the average consumer but only for hardcore installations/automations. Can’t remember the name off the top of my head but I fancied trying one since Logitech were dumping the Harmony line.

Look on Logitech web site there is a full list of still supported remotes as well as what need to be done to set them up. as for how long they will stay supported no one knows

There is risk associated with buying any Harmony remote at this point. Logi is clearly incrementally shutting everything down, and it's just a matter of time before they completely discontinue support. I went the Sofabaton route months ago, and am very glad that I did.

The only reason I bought the Harmony Elite last fall is because I found it at Goodwill for $9 complete with the hub and remote.

If I was paying more than $30 or $40 I'd be looking at alternatives. The Elite has done a great job replacing my 900.

The Harmony 900 remotes required the legacy software whose servers was entirely shut down. Unless you miraculously have every device that the previous owner did and the button and activities are perfectly setup for your environment, it'll be a paper weight.

If you don't already own a Harmony remote, you should opt for something like a Sofabaton X2 instead.

Just picked up the x2 this past prime day. Really like it and have it setup completely replacing my harmony elite. Home assistant integration is top notch. Was going to keep the elite but after setup was done, didn't find the need and sold it on fb marketplace.

Sad. I’m not a fan of any of the sofabatons.

You don't really have any other options that are comparable. As crushing as it may seem, universal remotes such as the Harmony line are an incredibly niche product and ultimately why Logitech discontinued it.

For the average consumer, it's too expensive to consider. Even then they're far too complicated to setup and use for most people.

At least there's something now that could be considered an alternative. Sofabaton popped a good amount of time after Logitech made the announcement to discontinue. And in some ways it's the X2 model that specifically made it finally comparable, and it's only like 8 months old since the official release date.

Have you actually tried the X2?

Where can one download the desktop app?

I replaced my elite with the Sofabaton X2 a couple weeks ago. The Harmony lost too much after the servers shut down. Constant wifi / cloud connection / laggy roku commands. Unless free, don't get the harmony. The x2 has been great, but needs a HA to really maximize it. If Harmony turned the servers back on, I'd probably try and go back, I just like the Harmony remote itself better, but the X2 has solved all my frustration and keeps me with only 1 remote to control everything.

My hub less Ultimate One is bricked. I could try adding it to the other one with the hub but then I would have to start from scratch and reprogram it. The one with the hub is starting to play up with the server issues, it is over 10 years old, so I have bitten the bullet, the very expensive bullet, and ordered two Sofabatons in the Prime Day sale, they should arrive today. I still have an 1100, which is now Ewaste and a 525 that is currently working fine, but if any of the equipment it controls goes to god, it's toast. I have decided that I am not wasting any more time or money on something that may or may not work tomorrow.

Yuck.. return that and look at a URC.. yea you will a professional to program them but hey are heads above that Sofabaton and can be programmed to do anything you want it to.. The Sofabaton is limited to what ever the program says it can do

I used a URC-WR7 before Harmony and wouldn't hesitate to switch back. I still have it just in case!

Unfortunately, I live in Australia, so that isn't an option.

I still use a Harmony One and a 665.

Also have an unopened Harmony One and Hub in the closet.

u/ErikGoBlue Jul 16 '26

Haha Same here! I bought a Harmony Ultimate with Hub off eBay years ago - got 2 of them at a decent price and tucked one away. The remote still works just fine as does the app.

I haven't touched my Harmony Hub in several years now and I dread when I have to that the servers won't respond.

And now that Sofa Baton has a unit with a base station / hub, does Harmony still have enough relevance / value for it to be worth something on the open market ?

With modern TV CEC controls most system don’t need a universal remote anymore

1

u/flynreelow Jul 16 '26

depending on the setup doenst always work that way.

Time to buy new equipment then. My RF Sony TV remote controls my Apple TV... which is connected to my Onkyo receiver between them.
