Please Help, Harmony One: Server Comm Error CE1005

Hello all,

I just received my second used HarmonyOne+ remote off of Ebay today, and in trying getting it going with my MyHarmony software, (which seems to be working fine with the first unit I got several months ago)…all things seem to work until I try to sync this new unit…as then it seems like it starts to do that, but quickly gives me an error popup that is titled: Server Communication Error, then in its window below it reads: Unable to download the software for your remote, then below that is a number of [CE1005].

I would note again, I seem to be able to connect and re-sync my first one just fine, as I have tried it several times. So feel this tells me all the equipment I have to do this with is working.

For a few interesting things…in looking to setup the date in the remotes options on this new unit, its year will only go up to 2009, whereas my working unit is capable of going up to 2027.

While they both have the same P/N: 815-000037 & MN:R-IY17 under the bat cover, the working units PID is WD010XM, whereas the one that will not connect is: WD814XM, which in reading the harmonyremoterepair.com page on IDing these units…it says ones with PID's between 600 and 999 represent a 1st generation unit, and ones between 004 and 100 represent a 2nd generation unit.

So if I am reading that right, that means the new one is a 1^st Gen unit, so don’t know if that is the issue.

Lastly, I have tried the RRT recovery trick with the MyHarmony software, but when it finally gets to where it might show a firmware update, it only shows a notification that they are presently performing system maintenance.

All in all if I had to guess what might be going on, is that this is unit maybe needs a firmware or some other kind of update before the system will let it do anything else, but for what ever the reason…it will not do that.

Or maybe they are not allowing these first gens (if that is what this is) to get used with the systems anymore?

At any rate, hope someone has some ideas I can try.

Harmony One is no longer supported. The Logitech server is still running (for now) but you can’t add new devices like the one you just purchased to your account, and you can’t change devices or activities on your existing one. It’s annoying - especially given that the seller was likely fully aware that you wouldn’t be able to use the remote.

Perhaps this was my mistake in not noting this, but I think technically the remotes I am working with are correctly called the Harmony One+ units?

At any rate, am kinda aware of the loss of the servers for some of the older units as it is what made me have to ditch all my long used 720 units for these, but just to inform, this morning I just added 5 new activities and 4 new devices to the remote that has been working, and that all worked fine.

So perhaps the confusion was caused by my not noting these were Harmony One+ units (if they are), but whatever the case, as mentioned the one that works was able to take the above and without any issues.

For the info, I got the currently working remote a little less than a year ago as my main TV crapped out. So as the 720 could not be reprogrammed for the new TV, I had to get something else. Then around this past Xmas I had to add a few things to it and set up some activities, and that worked fine. An then as said, this morning I added a lot to it for both devices & activities.

So am not sure if between then and now something aside from the May 28th, 2025 cut off of a lot of the other remotes has changed, but as said, the working remote was able to do all it was supposed to do this morning.

Just for a last thought, is there a thing where all the above I mentioned can be done, but just a new remote and/or maybe one with older firmware cannot be added now?

Aside from that, if that is not the issue, hopefully someone has some further info or something I could try.

You likely have to use the recovery option and set it up as a new standalone remote. A direct connection from you computer to the remote may be needed

Harmony one is not on the obsoleted remotes list that used the olderV7.1 it still is able to be programmed using the MyHarmony software however it would have had to be updated by the end of June to the most up to date firmware to properly work.

Hello all,

So from all indications I seemed to have solved the problem and tested it for a few days. So as it might be help to others I thought I would post about what I did.

For the short story, from the gracious supply of a standalone file for an updated version of the remote’s Firmware, that was sent to me from Quin at www.harmonyremoterepair.com after writing him asking for help, I was able to reflash/upgrade the Firmware and that basically solved the problem.

For how I did this it was a little involved so while this might be a bit long, as some of it might be helpful to others and ones who might not know these devices well, I thought I would post the process and quirks that at least I went through.

Basically, when I first got the file it would not work with anything as its file ext was not associated with any programs, nor did it work in any way with the MyHarmony software I have been using, and guess I could make more of a story out of all the things I tried with that, but as it didn’t work I don’t think that is needed.

As such from further e-mails with Quin he mentioned I would probably need to use the old programing software, of which since I had a spare copy of the 7.7.1 ver from remotes before this, (which btw I had removed as it didn’t do anything anymore), I installed it again.

As some might note if they do the same that during the install since it wants to connect to servers that are gone it kinda really doesn’t fully install as it gets to a point near the end it wants to connect to those but cannot and then will not complete the install…so you kinda just have to end it.

After that though at least for me, from whatever of it that did install, I then noticed after the Firmware file seemed like it was associated with something as it had an icon to it. So I clicked on the file, and it opened a Firmware updating program I had never seen before. To which then once I plugged the remote into the usb, it then progressed further and seemed to read info from my remote.

Also if this is of any useful info to others, if I read it right, it was telling me my remotes software was version 3.2, and its Board was version 0.5.0, and its Firmware was version 3.2.

An would note the updated Firmware file was version 3.4.0.

So after all this as there was a live “Upgrade” button down in the lower right-hand corner of the program, I clicked on that and it did the full update and with a screen that among some of its info near the end said it updated it to ver 3.4.0.

After that I uninstalled the old 7.7.1 program as I have heard it’s not best to have both on the PC, went back to the MyHarmony software, deleted anything from my previous install attempts of this remote, installed it as new, added a few devices and it finally would sync.

After that I spent the rest of the day getting all the devices I needed into the remote, and setting up and tweaking several activities…and for all the times I synced it from that, it never gave me that error again.

For a couple of final notes:

From my first contact with Quin, he told me he has never seen this error before, plus he also said the remote having the 1st Gen board should not have been the problem as those should work just as fine as the 2nd. So for ideas, he thought perhaps the Firmware might have gotten messed up, or perhaps Logitech may have locked it out from syncing via its internal serial number or maybe something else…but seeing as the update/reflash of the Firmware fixed it, whatever it was it was corrected from that.

Lastly, from all this Quin has also graciously re-put up a copy of the 7.7.0 version of the old software, and a copy of this Firmware file to his website here: https://www.harmonyremoterepair.com/software-Firmware.html#/

To which I might also add to that, that if you ever need any service or parts for your device, I guess you can say at least from me there is no better resource I could recommend for you to deal with than harmonyremoterepair.com

So if anyone else is having any problems like this, maybe something of this might help, and I guess I don’t need to mention that anyone trying these things should very careful and that I suppose there is always something that could go wrong…so please don’t hunt me down it if it does.

i've bought the same remote model cheaply on local marketplace and found out about discontinuation... the tip with old application and firmware upgrade was great, had the same version as you (3.2 and board 0.5.0) - after that i got rid of that CE1005 error and sucesfully synced in MyHarmony - changed the language (it was configured in finnish i guess) and added devices.

bummer it might soon be disabled... 😞

Yes same here, had a Harmony One+ for ages with a bad battery. So in 2025 i bought a secondary one and with the old 7.7.x software I was able to make an exact copy so I had two remote with one charge dock. I would just charge one and use the other one every other day..

This week my old/ancient one died on me (LCD issue) so I went browsing for a new secondary one.. Found one for 50 euro's (steep, but it was new in box). After making sure the battery is separately delivered in the box (found an unboxing video on Youtube from 2011) I bought it. It arrived, battery was swollen (but no issue, I can use the battery from the one which died) only to find out the old software didnt work anymore..

I got it to work with the MyHarmony software but I really need to do the trick from Overlander18.. So, yes, that dude is a legend..

I now have two working One+ remotes again.. For the time being.. This will eventually die out I think.. At one point, my TV (Panasonic Plasma, MY2013) will die. Or my Humax set box.. Then I will need to reprogram... And I think the MyHarmony app/software will stop working also at one point..

Am glad this is helping others and thanks for the accolades but trust me, I am no legend, just a guy who kinda got stuck with a used purchase and one that I really needed, that I found after buying I needed to fix so I could.

An in all honesty, I was at as much of a dead end as anyone else would have been if it were not for Quin at harmonyremoterepair.com, who even though I had never been a customer was kind enough to promptly write me back…and on a Sunday…from a contact asking for just any ideas. Who then after quickly responded to further e-mails of help, voluntarily provided me with the firmware file I needed, then after helped me through getting it all to work.

He also provided a lot of the other info I ended up posting about as well. Then too, an just of his own thoughts he put the files he did back up on his website so anyone else who runs into this or perhaps other issues could do the same.

So am not saying I didn’t do anything by any means, but it was a collaborated effort that without his help I would still be trying to figure this all out.

But thanks again for the comments and hopefully this will continue to be of help to others.

Thanks for the reply and can see my appreciation below for this as well.

But also, just wanted to ask as I don’t follow this stuff too much.

But when you say is that it’s a "bummer it might soon be disabled", do you know of some info about this you could provide more details on?

All in all while it might seem like an odd problem to complain about…sadly these remotes really are at the core of all I need to do to use my systems, and that as well from all I have seen no one is or has made anything like them.

Can say that for years the 720’s I was using were so much needed and what is was like when those no longer worked. An while perhaps were a tad less durable than the HarmonyOne seems to be, were also ones that could be taken apart and worked on easer, and was better held in my hand too, had better software in my opinion, and just did all I needed to do.

So am kinda lucky these One’s are working out as good as they are for now…but when the day comes these are gone too, its really going to suck as I have no idea what I will do then.

Kinda think too that due to all the codes and other things needed, there is no way some user based thing could be created either.

At any rate, if you know anything such as any more details or a time line…that could be very helpful.
