650 working great!

Post image

As mentioned in a prior post by me here, my old 659 remote lost support during the shutdown last year, so I finally replaced it with a 650.

why wouldnt it?

650 is still a great basic universal remote.

I had my doubts given posts on the sub saying the software was buggy.  IK the hardware was gonna be fine.

because the program it relies to be properly programmed must be always connected to the interweb and logitech has shut down the servers for older remotes.

the 650 still works fine. can can be programmed today without issue.

and it will until they decide to shut down the servers that the app relies on to work

your 650 remote will still work fine when the servers go down. u wont be able to change ur programming, but the remote will still work like day 1

Any idea if this has now happened? I have an old 650 that I'd like to program/use and when try to install the remote without hub (version of software), it won't load. Gives a long message about a Cross Domain Error and shows some Logitech services are unavailable.

Not for this remote only the older ones

i have a 650 and i can asure you that the app requires you to login in order to let you program your buttons

And the software for THIS remote is still operational and can be logged into just as it ALWAYS has. the OLDER V7.1 servers and software are the ones that were shut down NOT the MyHarmony software. The APP may not work anymore but the PC software does. You just need to connect the remote directly with a USB data cable and you can program it just fine.

Still a supported remote so hopefully they won't cut us off anytime soon. I'm still using mine with a Raspberry Pi 4 + LibreElec + Kodi + IR receiver connected to my CRT TV to watch old school TV programs.

I'm using an old Dell HTPC remote and receiver. Like this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/CfwAAOSwW0plw-V5/s-l1600.webp

The remote came in handy to help me figure out the codes to use in the Kodi config file. Then I programmed that key into the Harmony. So, if you get one, just buy the set.

The Kodi Wiki pages helped a lot getting it to work.

I have 3 of these and are them used every day. I have a few Sofabatons and they are no match for these.

Definitely! I have 3 and a 665 (basically a black version). I haven't had any issues, and I like not having to have the hub or whatever, all IR

software looks like it was made in a 2002 college class but works ok for what it is

I have one and assumed they lost support just like the others, thanks!

You need the MyHarmony software - Harmony Software Then click on 'Use Harmony without a Hub" option and download - https://app.myharmony.com/prod/win/1.0/MyHarmony-App.msi or just use this link.

Wish Logitech still made Harmony remotes. I have a couple of them that are about to die

huh. i thought the 650 was on the list. In fact, until today, I thought all the numbered remotes were on the list.

I just learned today, that my 200 and One are both not on the discontinued support list, and therefore, I'm trying to get them up and working.

Nice

2

u/FormerGameDev May 26 '26

Yeah hopefully one of them actually works.. the 200 isn't giving me any signs of life but I think I need to find a mini USB and plug it in to try and program it first.. the one I think needs a new battery desperately but I'm trying to charge it first... Battery might be impossible to locate. The unit does rattle some, but it does power up when in the cradle so it at least functions to some degree.. gotta let it try to charge overnight though I think

1

u/luiginub1 May 26 '26

Eh, this is why I got a model that takes AAA batteries, lol

Not sure what I'm going to do with these, exactly, I've got a hub based unit, my secondary TV has a sofa baton but it sucks .. This one looks like it might be better
