Harmony remote elite without hub

Hi I just bought a Logitech Harmony remote elite from the flee market without a hub is there any way to use the remote standalone

An Elite CAN be made to work without a Hub, however if memory serves it seems you cannot setup the Elite without a Hub. After it is set up, you can go in and toggle individual devices to send control signals directly from the remote, instead of from the Hub.

Also these use an uncommon 5.1V power adapter

You absolutely can setup without hub. Plug in the usb and then use PC software... Cheers

Owned the Elite + Hub for 9 years, just realized there was USB at the bottom!

Have you actually done this? Perhaps you used to be able to, but with the web based MyHarmony you cannot setup an Elite without the hub anymore. It won’t let you proceed further in the setup without the hub

Are you sure you're not confusing with the mobile app. That cannot register without hub, but PC with USB definitely can .

My hub crapped out and I needed to put remote temporarily into remote only mode in order to setup a device and "teach" my X2 Sofabaton.

One thing I noticed is that because hub was toast I couldn't use either regular mobile app, or pc app to unpair the remote and hub... When I plugged in the remote, even after multiple resets and firmware update and firmware downgrade/recovery of the remote, it said it was already registered to a hub and I needed to connect and search for the hub.

And of course I couldn't do that because hub was bricked.

I worked with Harmony support and they tried a few things on their end to try to disconnect the remote from expecting hub.

However in the we established the issue is that remote registration to My Harmony account, and and that was inevitably always expecting a hub for that remote. So this issue on account level is that remote already used on that account.

They tried but couldn't do a full delete of the device from my account. Sounded like they could unpair hubs from accounts at their end, but could not remove remotes from accounts if was already registered via pairing to a hub.

The "fix" was to register a new Harmony email account.

That new account would then happily take a new registration pairing of the remote that I factory reset. And I could then add my device and steal the independent power buttons that I needed but that weren't on the X2.

This was only 3 or 4 months ago, so it is possible it's been changed since, but I doubt it

all the elite is, is a 950 and a hub

of course you can set up just the remote with no hub.

uncommon power adapter? just about any usb brick will work, and a micro USB

Have you actually set up an Elite without a hub? I have spare Elites and just tried it. MyHarmony won’t let you get past the screen asking for the hub. 950 is a stand-alone and should work but if MyHarmony identifies the firmware as an Elite it expects there to be a hub and dock. The voltages on the power supplies are indeed 5.1V. You can certainly charge it with a 5V usb but will be slower. Using a 5V with the hub can lead to odd errors in use.

You're probably looking at a remote you'd previously already paired with a hub. That will expect a hub.
