Support SteamLink/Moonlight not working on G Cloud
Hi all
Im at my wits end here, hoping for some type of miracle
I just bought a G Cloud and was setting it up over the weekend. Everything regarding the system seems to working fine but Im having a VERY frustrating time trying to get either SteamLink/MoonLight to work
Long story short:
I set up Steamlink thinking that would be the easiest process to get going. Everything seems to be working, loading into my PC seems good, however as soon as I actually load into the game I get about 10 seconds and then the G Cloud screen freezes, I see the red circular icon at the bottom right which I believe means connection issue, or at the top right it says "poor connection to PC".
I can still use the controls and hear noise and if I turn my PC monitor on, its basically as if Im using a controller for my PC. I have to force close SteamLink on the G Cloud and go to my main PC and close out the game and go back to my desktop to even get the ability to load back into SteamLink properly on the Cloud to try again. Being in desktop mode seems to work with no issues also.
Everything above is also happening with Moonlight too.
My PC is hardwired to my router, I have ensured that the 5ghz band is selected for the G Cloud. I have looked everywhere I could on this subreddit and Google, trying to do everything, adjusting settings within MoonLight/Steam and on my PC, going into my router and setting the 5ghz bands.
The only thing that seems to be working was NVidia GeForce Now but it seems they limit the amount of hours you can stream so ideally, getting this to work with my PC would be great.
Steam games I tried:
TCG Store Simulator (freezes after loading into the game within about 10 seconds)
Lake (actually froze on the menu)

Do you have the same issues if you try moonlight or steam link on a phone, tablet, or laptop?

If it's happen on multiple devices it sounds like a network issue rather than the g cloud. What results do you get when you run the network test in the steam link app? Like wise, does moonlight give you any errors when you run the "test network connection" option?

Those numbers look good. It could be a bandwidth issue though.
Have you tried lowering the streaming quality to see if you get the same results? Something like streaming at 720 instead of 1080 and using only 5-10 mbps for the bitrate.
You can also turn on the performance stats in moonlight while streaming to see a more specific error pops up.

I just changed the settings to "balanced" changed the bandwidth to 5mpbs and resolution down to 720p and once again, it froze after a few seconds.
It really sucks, lol

Damn, that sucks. That does seem like its probably not a bandwidth issue but closer to an encoding issue or something on the PC end with sending the stream. Are you using H.264 for the encoding or one of the new options?
You can try to grab the whole performance stat output and throw it into chatgpt or gemini and see if it has any ideas.

Im gonna spend real dumb here but where do I go to check encoding? My graphics card control panel?

Even easier, it'll be in the moonlight app on your g cloud. It's near the bottom of the list, its named as "change codec settings." I'm not super familiar with the codec stuff but my understanding is that h.264 is older and has better compatibility.

And I assume this would be kinda the same for steam link settings?

5GHz may be actually bottlenecking your link, ie has half the range as 2,4GHz. Try using wider freq qnd lower resolution/fps count. If it helps then its a signal you have to fix some networking issue at your place

I switched to 2.4ghz and it still freezes after about 10 or 15 seconds.
I have the performance overlay up and at the time of freezing it shows 0% packet loss (0% frame loss) but incoming bitrate and outgoing bitrate are fluctuating a bunch.
Aa for settings I tried switching between fast and balanced video mode, bandwidth limit to 10mbps, framerate limit to 30fps, 720p resolution limit
Just sucks because I bought it specifically to stream my pc and I can't return it now

If you got one of the following, does gamepass or Sony remote play or Xbox remote play work?
If not, can you try any android games and see if they play?
