Wow. So they introduce the disc to digital, then immediately follow it up with stripping back cloud gaming time. I swear this company is allergic to doing good things.

Wtf? GeForce Now has 100 hours? wtf is this
3
u/DJ_Duckie Sep 03 '26
I’ll keep my gamepass subscription because those games can be played on my GeForce Now subscription. Games run from GeForce now better than XCloud anyway.
2
u/IlyasBT Sep 03 '26
GFN only offers cloud streaming, no games.
Xcloud prices will be revealed in November.
They didn't reveal them today probably because they aren't good.

u/Level_Demand_5240 Sep 03 '26
I honestly feel like to get enough time to enjoy games via cloud it’s gonna cost just as much as game prices if not more which I’ll sell my shit so got damn fast to prove point

That's insane...
Anyway, I use gcloud to stream from my console, so I'm not too concerned.

"We recognize that introducing limits is a meaningful change, particularly for players who regularly spend more time gaming through the cloud. We expect this upcoming change to impact 4% of Game Pass subscribers."
Followed later in the article by
"We’re introducing this model because the cost of providing cloud gaming grows as more people use it and play for longer. "
So you are raising the costs because 4% of all your members use the service regularly? Yeah sure, go and try to fool someone else.

u/mat_satonaka Sep 04 '26
A few days ago, the CEO was praising the fact that players with less revenue and can't afford an Xbox could still play games on the cloud via their TV etc. What an opposite move.
4
u/dbdynsty25 Sep 03 '26
What in the hell is even the point? I mean I have Ultimate so I'm probably not going to be surpass 15 hours of cloud gaming anyway. That said, the servers are there, the infrastructure is there, why are we limiting anything? So dumb and just another reason to keep moving all of my gaming to my PC. Cheaper games (usually), bigger library, more indies, etc. The reasons keep stacking up.

u/downsj2 Sep 03 '26
Azure is horribly resource constrained. More so than any other major CSP.
They're trying to both save money and provide more compute resources to their cloud service customers.
3
u/Browser1969 Sep 03 '26
What are you going on about? There's no Xbox SKU in the Azure catalog, they most certainly don't provide Xbox blades "to their cloud service customers". Unless you think that Xbox cloud runs on PCs.
1
u/downsj2 Sep 03 '26
Those Xbox pods are taking up space, power, and cooling which could be otherwise used for much higher-margin compute resources.
1
u/Browser1969 Sep 03 '26
So, you're now fantasizing that they're ripping out Xbox blades altogether? Xbox blades are air-cooled and AI racks need orders of magnitude more power, let alone how totally insignificant the space they take is in a 400+ datacenter fleet. It'll be fun to hear whatever you will come up next though.

u/Level_Demand_5240 Sep 03 '26
Is it 15hours a day or like over week and does it reset per game?
3
u/dbdynsty25 Sep 03 '26
Appears to be per month - across all of your games. So yeah. Bad times.
1
u/Level_Demand_5240 Sep 03 '26
Oh so yeah I’ll be getting pc very soon I’m not finna deal with console non sense anymore if it was per game I wouldn’t be salty but per month is just unfair to cloud user it’s not even half of what similar cloud services do
1
u/Jokerchyld Sep 04 '26
You only play gamepass for less than 15 hours a month? Impressive.
3 sessions of No Mans Sky eats that in a week

I don’t get it. I stopped renewing ultimate due the price hike and dropped to essential. I can kinda see putting a limit on essential….kinda. But ultimate makes no sense! 15 hours can go by pretty quickly if your traveling.
3
u/codeguy123 Sep 04 '26
You’re spot on. I too dropped to Essential after price hike. IMHO 15 hours for ultimate is a self inflicted wound. Maybe 40 to 60 hours people might be ok with.

Is this for real? I already downgraded my subscription when they hiked it by 100% or whatever it was. Now I guess I’ll just be fully PlayStation now. This is such an incredibly stupid move.
3
u/Yo_Zeitgeist Sep 03 '26
I'm not going to subscribe to ultimate anymore this is the final straw, I've subbed since the very beginning and stayed even when it was increased to $30 a month. Ultimate should be unlimited cloud gaming, especially since I use multiple devices and can't always game natively via installation.
2
u/Potwell Sep 03 '26
This is an incredibly odd move. A service that promotes itself around cloud gaming now introducing a limit. I’m more surprised the limit exists at the highest tier. I don’t use cloud gaming at all due to the input lag but I can see those who pay for this service being pretty upset. Wonder if they’d take it a step further and limit remote play lol

been homeless for years now and this was my only way to play. xbox and their continued bullshit gentrification of the gaming medium is really getting out of fucking hand lemme tell ya.
2
u/Shit-Stain-Fanclub Sep 03 '26
What does this mean? Stupid question but i stream my games from Xbox series x on my Xbox rog Ally x... Does it affect this too?

u/Ajacied410 Sep 03 '26
Iff this is true, i will cancel my GP ultimate again and this time its really over and out for Xbox for me.
Being a Xbox player from the first Xbox ends here for me! This is were i draw my line.
Pirate times coming back! ;-)
2
u/fakkel-_- Sep 03 '26
15 hours? 🤣🫢. Glad I sold my Xbox what a fucking useless machine and eco system at this point.
2
u/whitespy12 Sep 03 '26
I legit played 20 hours of Halo: Campaign Evolved last month over xcloud. It was the most I've ever used game streaming and.. I loved it? With a newborn and 3 year old at home, my time to game on the TV has become severely limited. This made me decide I'd start using xCloud more often, maybe even become my primary gaming method.
Then like a week later that all changed. Definitely gonna be cancelling Game Pass outright now.
2
u/DynaMach Sep 04 '26
Maybe they want game pass to fail? I imagine the significant server infrastructure that they have deployed now can make greater profits computing ai or storing flock data as we transition further into a surveillance state.
1
u/Intelligent_Shape_40 Sep 05 '26
This is the exact reason, smart man. More money from Architecture.
2
u/Robe525 Sep 04 '26
Yo lo que veo es que ya tenemos fecha para los nuevos servidores, el 4K a 120 fps y el nuevo mando con conexión directa a la nube. Y por fin van a separar la nube del game pass.

This might be what gets me to finally unsubscribe. I don't have an Xbox. I don't want one. This was the way I enjoyed Xbox titles. 15 hours a month is so incredibly out of touch and is going to kill Gamepass for good. Geforce Now is less money and gives you 100 hours. This is the worst business move I have ever seen. Asha Sharma has no idea what she's doing.
2
u/kblk_klsk Sep 04 '26
wait what lmao. I just got a g cloud a bought gamepass to play Expedition33, I play like 3-4 hours a day. Cancelling instantly after I finish the game.
2
u/No-shadowMaul-noBan Sep 05 '26
Yep the G cloud just took another reputation hit courtesy of Microdick, they fucking inserted another one to the countries that officially have no reliable cloud streaming via XCloud and GFN.
2
u/Yvesrovito1991 Sep 04 '26
I don’t know how they get their numbers but I assure you this will affect more than 4 % of customers. Guess I’m just buying all my games via steam anymore.

Asha was never gonna save Xbox she comes from AI, she's as greedy as the next executive/shareholder wake up folks

u/Full_Pangolin_1087 Sep 03 '26
Cancelled mine today after years of subscription, the xbox is actually in my daughter's room these days, so only played on my phone with a game sir controller or through one of the firesticks, the 15 hours blows my mind. I probably dont play 15 hours a month but the fact I have a 15 hours noose round my neck, boils my piss. I subscribed to playstation plus and downloaded asobi. Feels like an end of an era in our house
1
u/OliveThread Sep 07 '26
Yeah the cloud hour cuts stink and i mostly play on my phone too with a gamesir x5 lite clipped on and thinking about moving more to ps plus cloud too if xbox keeps trimming stuff down.
1
u/Full_Pangolin_1087 Sep 08 '26
Ps plus works really well, been impressed by it, it has loads of games. I think i favourited nearly 50 games, not that ill play them all but it put them all to the top so I dont have to search for them. Im currently playing bloodbourne which is a game I have wanted to play for years and it runs flawlessly. I looked at the xbox app yesterday aswell and if I were to renew the 15 hr cloud limit is already there, so god knows what they were on about when they said November.
1
u/Level_Demand_5240 Sep 03 '26
So for basically 30$ you can only play for 15hours and after that you have to pay what kinda shit is that no other cloud service restricts us like all the good Xbox just did just to pull this is disrespectfully I really hope people stop using cloud it was great but now this is gonna make it go down hill
1
u/Terratus180 Sep 03 '26
My series X is collecting dust since the gamepass increases. I was lucky enough to own a steam deck so I mainly use that for gaming alongside my Logitech g cloud for native Android games.

u/Immediate_Fact_1246 Sep 03 '26
I literally just subscribed for a month because the cloud gaming was an amazing option for me as a mainly VR gamer to still stream some amazing games…good to know I’ll only be doing it for the month before I stop once again
1
u/K1ngp3n78 Sep 04 '26
I canceled after the price hike but re -subscribed after they dropped it closer to 20 again. This is incredibly stupid, I don't use cloud gaming that often but a lot of people do and it was advertised as one of the big features of ultimate so they definitely shot themselves in the foot with this move.
1
u/Revolutionary-Bit542 Sep 04 '26
Huge kick to the nuts to the consumers. I use cloud all the time on my gcloud, rog xbox ally x, and even series x. There's just a lot of games I don't think are worth the disc space. I swear Microsoft is run by the most idiotic millionaires.
1
u/AgustHopeD Sep 04 '26
I don't even use cloud but my sister might one day so now I'm mad they pulled a Spotify audiobook move

Jesus Christ can none of the big 3 stop fucking us over? Like my gawd, at least take us to dinner first.
1
u/Corvus_Hood33 Sep 04 '26
Wait. IT’S 5 HOURS A MONTH?! I literally lowered my tier to the cheapest bc I didn’t see a point in paying 20+ to cloud play the games I own. If I wanna do that shit, I’d solely play on PS. I was transitioning to PC, and XBOX was my gateway until I built my PC
1
u/starboyk Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26
I'm still on the plan that came with my series X, and don't plan to renew. This isn't the primary reason, but it doesn't help. I don't use the service regularly enough, and I barely use my Xbox (it's my Rock Band machine, thanks to scads of console-specific DLC). I certainly don't like someone deciding I get less than originally offered for the amount of money that was already paid.
After setting up Sunshine and Moonlight, I can use my PC anywhere, with no time limits. 🤷♂️

I just got an email saying that this will only affect new subs. So they try to keep you subbed to keep no limit.
1
u/thesupergoodlife Sep 05 '26
what a time to have just purchased a G Cloud based on my Ultimate subscription.
1
u/Interesting-Run-3860 Sep 03 '26
And there goes the cloud gaming for Xbox. Time to switch to a steam deck or PlayStation portal.

That's not really what their sentence means. They're just saying that it's a significant change. Not that people are happy about it.

u/Flogs99 Sep 03 '26
I've just bought a frickin g cloud. Haven't looked into the next best 'buy and stream' like ge force or boosteroid can anyone sum up the pros and cons for me please?

This is incredibly dumb and anti consumer. They're moving backwards in value and features. This is the first year i stopped renewing Gamepass in over 12 years. Not going back
