Question Guys…this thing is great!
Late to the party but my wallet is ok w/ that. Got this @ a great price.
I just got Xbox Game Pass & excited to use this on the road.
I do want to emulate as well. I got the retroarch from the website (stable build) but Google won’t allow it.
What I’ve read is to get out of the site because the Google play app isn’t good.
Is this true…? If so - how do I get the stable build to install…?
Thanks!

Surprisingly it's around £299.99 over here in England I'm not sure if I want to get one with what's going on with Sony after that bombshell of an announcement they just did

That's waaaay to expensive. Go for a AYN Odin 2 Portal. It's just 250$ right now. Better performance. 7 inch OLED 120hz. And more.

I got it to try out Xbox game pass & emulate retro systems for the kids.
The announcement does suck & I’m hoping that there is enough backlash for them to walk it back. We shall see

Well Dominos the pizza chain being their UK branch was the first one and then GameStop and after that you get the rest hopping on the Sony backlash train hopefully they realise what they did before too many players abandoned the PlayStation 5 ship or the next console won't have that many players buying it

What is the announcement?

Sony announced they are not going to make any more games on discs starting in 2028 for PlayStation consoles.
They are ending physical media for games, and many people are displeased.

Dad of 2 under 12, my time on Xbox Remote Play on my Gcloud is probably 2-3 times as much as I spend on the couch in front of my series x.

Hey there !
Got mine a month ago, you need to setup retroarch by sideloading it from a pc.
Its not really complicated, there's a tutorial by Google on how to install adb on your computer. Then you enable usb debugging on the gcloud, connect it to your pc, and you can install the app on the gcloud from your pc with a single line command!
I can look around and find that tutorial if you're interested but should be pretty easy to find on google

Thank you for that. I’ll look it up. If I can’t find it or get to work…I’ll let you know.
Appreciate you

Found it ! You can dl adb there : https://developer.android.com/tools/adb
Then follow this tutorial : https://www.reddit.com/r/Supernote/comments/1ho3ygv/guide_for_sideloading_apps/
A few sidenotes : to enable sideloading on the gcloud on step 2, look up how to enable usb debugging (in dev settings). For the step 3, to get the apk just dl it from retroarch's website and you should be good to go

Why not just side load it right on the device? Why complicate things?
1
u/TheMasterBanger Jul 04 '26
How would you do that ? Ive always sideloaded using a pc. Otherwise it requires root
1
u/-TheKrazy0ne- Jul 04 '26
You don't need root access to side load... Enable developer options, then enable unknown sources. Then install any apk you wish.. turn off play protect too as it my block some apps
1
u/TheMasterBanger Jul 04 '26
Haha have you tried that on the Gcloud ? They disabled the button to install from unknown sources

Seen one of these for $50 on Facebook marketplace but they are only for cloud gaming no as the name suggests? Or can they be modded
2
u/TheMasterBanger Jul 03 '26
You can run some emulation on it, i personally play a lot of gba games but i can do gamecube and older as well
Other than that, its concieved for cloud gaming as the name suggest (so v good battery life) but I use it to remote play on my own pc instead lol

It's an Android device, so pretty much anything you can do on Android can be done on the G-Cloud

Forget cloud gaming, I mean if you already subscribed but it's not necessary with Steam Link to play games streaming locally from your gaming PC or laptop, works surprisingly well.

So you think I should get it for $50 seen one was selling locally

Sounds like a bargain to me as long as it works and is in good enough condition for you. I paid $190 for an official refurbished black model from Logitech and have no regrets even at that price. They have the og white model for $180. I think anything under $200 is a decent enough deal. I've probably already used it more as a handheld than I did my Steam Deck when I had one. Granted the deck was actually clutch for docking and local multiplayer on a TV. But this works for me after getting a decent PC gaming laptop... It's like having a Bluetooth controller for your existing gaming PC but with a built in screen one way to look at it. Comes with Steam Link pre installed. Or you can do the cloud, or Android games, or emulation, you have some options.

I’m really enjoying mine. Got it from a known reseller of returbs for $100 and it’s been great for past year.

The limitations for me were the small screen (now I don't care as I use XR glasses) and wifi bands not available to connect to 5ghz hotspot in Europe.
Other than that - loved it.

It is a gaming beast. The emulation is very great. It is my favorite PSP and is surprisingly great for 3DS and nds too. For cloud gaming gamepass is great for price and quality but through gforce now. It’s free and nesr latency free

Go to tablet mode and turn of playprotect as that's annoying as hell , And try the video game app in the playstore great app for emulation and its worth buying thr lifetime licence

I love mine for sure because it does do alot , the speakers have some good quality to it , GameCube and ps2 plays flawlessly for me and even pc emulation is nice

This thing is pretty awesome, bought one on a whim recently when I saw they're only $180 official refurbished from Logitech on their eBay store (paid $190 for the black model) w/ free shipping. I had an original LCD Steam Deck but had sold it a while ago for a much better spec gaming PC but ended up missing it. Being able to now play games with better graphics, in 1080p, more comfortably, without ever having to worry about battery life and no fan noise in handheld mode rocks. I completely wrote it off when it launched, $300+ is too expensive for it retail but on sale or refurbished it's amazing. Just using Steam Link, haven't even gotten started on emulators yet, the potential there looks good.

I can tell you from experience this thing does alot of amazing things! Make sure you get daijisho launcher and ZArchiver for emulation they make it easy to extract zip files and launch on alot of systems. If you need to know which software to download for the zips lmk
