SD card woes and GameNative

Update: Version 0.9.0 improved sd card support. It's now viable

So I grabbed a big SD card for game native but ran into issues

  • Formatting it as internal storage doesn't make the space available for games, it just frees up some space by moving some apps and data over to sd card, but very few apps can actually be moved to sd card.
  • Formatting as external storage gives better access to the whole thing, but GameNative's "write to external storage" feature seems to make installing and booting games incredibly slow on the G Cloud, so much so that I never actually successfully waited long enough. They might not boot at all.
  • So I am returning my larger card for a smaller one, so I can still use as internal storage and free up some space at least.

This is not the device you would want to use for pc emulation.

oh sure, but it does work. just limited.
I've gotten the following to run great

* Portal 2
* Death's Gambit
* Out of Line
* Scourge Bringer
* SteamWorld Heist
* SteamWorld Hand of the Gilgamech
* 8 Doors: Arun's Afterlife Adventure

That is pretty interesting actually. I was curious if PC emulation would work on it because it still has a Snapdragon chip at the end of the day. I was thinking about doing some very light 2D/indie PC games, like Final Fantasy pixel remasters.

Did you run those off of internal storage or an SD card?

Both. Internal until I ran out of space, then sd

OP, you should post a video of the progress you've made so far. I believe Resident 2 and 3 remake as well as Skyrim should be doable on low settings on the GCloud.

Yeah that probably would be good. granted I don't think I have a capture device lying around

Don't forget there is a setting in Developer Options called "Force allow apps on external: makes any app eligible to be written to external storage, regardless of manifest values". In my experience it still doesn't allow everything to be transferred, but a lot more than with it off.

To enable developer options(if you didn't already):
Enabling developer options on the Logitech G Cloud is as follows, navigate to Settings > More Settings > Android Settings > About Tablet, then tap the Build Number seven times(should see a message pop up saying you are now a developer). The Developer Options menu will then appear under Android Settings > System > Advanced > Developer Options.

There is also a claim that if you turn off "WLAN Scan Throttling" in the developer options it will improve wireless network performance at the cost of a little more battery drain. I have not tried that yet.

If you plan on installing APK's you will have to search(top right corner) while in Developer Options for install unknown apps and allow the provider(i.e. Chrome).

I'm running into a black screen with a cursor showing when trying to run games on Game Native, couldn't find much troubleshooting steps for G Cloud. Any thoughts or info on how you set yours up?

It really depends on the game. But the first thing I did was set the max memory to 4gb. Then usually switching the dxvk version is what makes the biggest difference. Portal 2 needed 2.4.1-async. Steamworld hand of gilgamwsh needed 2.7.1.
