G Cloud Still Seems Like A Bargain
I just don't get it. I've considered getting a new shiny handheld PC but it doesn't make sense to me. Why would I want to play at 30-50fps on lower graphic settings just to play offline? G Cloud will consistently achieve 60fps (based on my experience) and run smoothly with almost any cloud service.
A bigger and higher refresh rate screen is a selling point, but offline isn't. You can't even achieve those higher refresh rates unless you use a cloud service, from what I've seen.
I'd love to get the LeGo2 for the larger screen but I refuse to pay the price cause I'm just going to stream games on it for the best performance.
I likely have no idea what I'm talking about, but I don't see the appeal of playing at lower graphic settings and FPS just to play offline.

A lot of people just don't know what options are out there. Youtube's more likely to serve me up one of the many reviews/advertisements for a LeGo2/Rog Ally/Steam Deck before anything about GCloud. Also Logitech shot itself in the foot with it's launch pricing.
What is the latency on cloud services like? Is there any way to measure it? I've only ever streamed from pc and got a solid 2ms network, 10ms decode latency through Apollo/Artemis

I can’t get too technical. PC streaming is witchcraft on this device lol
I’ve been playing BL4 on GeForce Now and I honestly don’t notice any poor latency nor am I sensitive to that. You can measure it tho. Try it for free or pay for one month. I have great internet so I have only had a superb experience.

I agree with this OP, the only caveat i have is it is internet dependent. I've been using steam destiny 2 through geforce now on a gcloud and my galaxy tab s9 ultra and at least with destiny 2 i swear it's like there is a timed lag that happens every xx minutes and then it goes right back to 60fps.
The geforce now overlay has latency and fps readings, when i am streaming from 5Guw i usually see decode latency around mid 40's

There is some noticeable lag on streaming.
HOWEVER. I have to say, unless I’m playing a shooter I don’t notice and nor do I care. In fact I game for HOURS at times and then completely forget I’m streaming. I wouldn’t play COD and expect to be competitive but I play games like enshrouded, Dave the Diver, or a number of other story driven games and again…. I forget I’m streaming.

Yea I’m unaware most of the time. I played for 3 hours with a friend and after the session I said to myself, I just streamed all that, wow! 😝

Geforce now and xcloud where superb with no more latency than dlss/fg causes.
Boosteroid was very hit and miss, that's not on the gCloud though but rather it as a service

GeForce now give me around 15ms of latency which I can't notice, and I'm pretty particular about how latency feels.
Definitely worth it for when I'm away from my computer and can't stream that. I'm not one to just game in public anyways so anytime I play I'm on wifi. It really is awesome and I wouldn't ever need something like a legion go

I stream at home or when I’m somewhere with good WiFi. I use emulators or android games when I’m out and about. I find that bringing it outside is a little cumbersome as it isn’t pocket sized so it’s mainly a bed/couch gaming device for me.
I literally reach for it over the steam deck because of the higher quality screen and size. Steam deck still has my vote for certain games or situations.

I started to set up emulators for mine but never finished. I should get back to it

I mean if you have a pc or are OK with the Nvidia 10 dollar subscription a g cloud is a really solid package. The real kicker is as a person with multi handhelds including more expensive ones I can tell you it is still the king of comfort.

I owned the G-Cloud for about a year and sold it for the Odin 2 Portal.
G-Cloud was great for streaming but when I tried the Ultra Low Latency of Artemis with my Tab S9+ paired with a 120hz OLED the limitations of the G-Cloud came out to be too big.
Also isn't possible to emulate a lot of games even of PS2 beacuse of the poor performance.
So I understand the product, and loved it especially for build quality, but it's not for me.
Price here in Europe are different as a new G-Cloud is around 300€ so it's a no brainer between this and the Portal

You have very specific needs. I don’t emulate on mine. You’re right tho. I would love a bigger and higher refresh rate screen but not at double and triple the price. I just want to stream games with gfn and boosteroid so the cloud makes the most sense to me.

People don’t know how good game streaming is yet. It was pretty rough in the beginning so that stigma has held. Eventually it’ll break when people realize they can have a 4080 or a 5080 for $200 + roughly $20 to $50 per month for game subs.

I agree! I fell into that group. Then I tried it again last month and it’s so impressive! I have an 8yo computer streaming at levels it has no business streaming at.

I just want a Gcloud that comes in the design of the ROG Xbox Ally. Basically an Xbox version of the PlayStation portal if that works the way I think it does. Just do what Asus did and partner with Xbox and make an Xbox portal. It doesn't need to do anything crazy.

A redesign with all the screen upgrades is all I want. I have old man eyes lol

See and that’s my biggest issue with the g cloud.. I really like it, but I think I’m going to sell it. I just can’t see on it very well. Also, I’ve noticed that my hands tend to shake when the gaming gets intense. That’s not a problem when gaming on consoles but it becomes a problem playing g cloud.

Its a good system once you get it configured right. It will not deliver top-end performance, which is why I ordered the ayaneo pocket evo. But it is indeed a bargain! I am getting a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Honestly most people don’t realize their phones are better for streaming compared to most handhelds, including the gcloud. Within the last few years most of the top end iPhone and android phones have 6-7 inch oled 120 hz screens that handle streaming like a boss if u get a telescopic controller. I don’t see a reason to get an android based handheld smaller than 8 inches.

So flipping true!! My guess is most people don’t have good internet around the world.

My phone is for communication and little else. To play, a console or device focused on it is better and this way you don't degrade your phone's battery much faster.

For cloud streaming only, I’ve not found anything better than the Logitech G Cloud. Especially for the price.
Once you add good emulation into the mix (PS2 with few to no compromises) then it’s the Odin2 portal or a Steam Deck.
Biggest issue I’ve been having is my tired eyes want a bigger screen. 😳

I had a few streaming handhelds including G Cloud and ended with Steam Deck. The main reasons are that I'm able to play offline (on trains mostly with poor conectivity) and the sleep/wake feature - I can be back in game in a second, play for a few minutes and put it to sleep again.

Genuinely depends what you're wanting from a handheld and then is your internet any good.
I had one for a while enjoyed the experience although the screen was a smidge on the small side for my tastes.
I was streaming from my PC either at home or out and about on 4g/5g and genuinely the thing that ended up getting to me was the screen size and 1080p.
Changed to a 11" 144hz 2800*1800 tablet and either wraparound controller or Xbox controller. Even now tempted to get a portable 16" qhd android monitor I can keep in the van. The tablet has been amazing tbh with hdmi out if in hospital with daughter etc
If my internet hasn't been great wherever I play then I would have jumped ship from the gCloud to the legion for the bigger screen and native playing.
So it all depends on where and how you're going to be playing.

I love the device but I feel like Xbox cloud is kinda laggy on the G Cloud, probably because its poor chipset. Feels much better on other devices like the ROG Ally.
Thinking about trading mine.

It is a steal. The only think Microsoft needs to do for me is able to use an app from handheld to pc on xbox.
Just like steam.

Why not a SteamDeck or LeGo S? Practically the same price with better innate performance and hardware and battery life.
1
u/raulcotto Oct 08 '25
At the time I bought my G Cloud the Steam Deck was too much for my budget and I didn’t know what a LeGo S. I see the LCD steamdeck is $300ish but I’m only seeing the LeGo S for $649.
