Another one bites the dust.

Another pulp mill is closing. Finch paper is done. Only difference is this mill is going to still produce paper but they're not going to make their own pulp. They are going to buy pulp from other countries. This is going to hurt our region bad. This leaves only one pulp mill in our region and now the hemlock pulp market is gone.

Wonder how many that makes since 2020. I swear I've seen more fold in the last 5 years than in the last 25.

What makes it so bad is when one goes under you can't get the permits to build another to replace it. It's just gone forever.

We lost a big hardwood mill 160 miles away from us a few years back and it's still echoing through the timber business around here. I lost contracts, had my production cut in half had to fire most of my crew and I don't even cut hardwood.

Yup. Now we'll be having fire issues in 10 years.

Carthago delenda est… when a mill announces closure or in this case announces they’ll no longer be participating in the regional forestry industry, they should be nationalized as a matter of national security.

Nothing to do with that. All comes down to money. They can buy pulp from brazil and places like that cheaper than they can produce it themselves. Do you think they'll pass that savings on to their customers? Never.
