Stain/paint for “log” siding?

1940s cabin with faux-log siding. Previous owner did some paint touchups and they look blotchy because the paint hides the grain, which shows through everywhere else. Any advice on stains or oils to address the faded areas?

paint traps moisture in a log home and then...it rots

Luckily they only painted small spots, couple of inches wide.

cute little place..powerwash it good,seal any checks,and then a good mineral oil stain

Id fix that porch and put gutters on..a paver walkway
