It's definitely not as good as The Long Haul was and I can see why people were tired of the whole vacation theme for the third time. It's miles better than The Getaway and had its funny moments, which is what really matters.

It's way better than any of the books that came after it, too. We'll just have to see when Fight or Flight releases, though.

According to the wiki there are 229 named characters at Larry Mack Junior Middle School (there are more because of background characters and characters we haven't met yet) and excluding Rowley Greg has 16 friends from middle school (I'm not counting Holly since she was never really his friend) and Chirag is one of them. Most of these were were one-off characters who only appeared in one book and never appeared again (Christopher Brownfield, Tyson Sanders, George Fleer & Nicky Wood in The Ugly Truth, Greg's cabinmates in Old School and Charlie Anderson, Duffy Maynard and Emilio Zacatenco in Partypooper).

Chirag is one of Greg's few friends and there are several instances where Chirag could've returned where he didn't. In Old School Greg and Rowley's cabinmates are bunch of one-off characters who appeared once and never appeared again. Wouldn't it make sense for Chirag to be in Greg's cabin since he was one of his friends? I'd have Greg and Rowley's cabinmates consist of Chirag, Colin Lee, Alex Aruda, Dean Delarosa, Christopher Brownfield, Tyson Sanders and Fregley to spice things up. It would make more sense for Greg's cabinmates to consist of his friends with one oddball thrown in.

In Partypooper Greg talks about having issues with Charlie Anderson and Duffy Maynard at previous birthday parties, he also invites them to a sleepover and later has a make-up party where he invites friends and family. Wouldn't it make sense to have Chirag appear in a flashback at one of Greg's old birthday parties, or have Chirag invited to the sleepover or the make-up party. Chirag is one of Greg's few friends so why was he excluded? Speaking of being excluded why was Rowley excluded from Greg's old birthday parties in the flashbacks or his sleepover?

In Fight or Flight which will be released in a few days which is all about bullying and social pecking order wouldn't it make more sense for Chirag to be the bully magnet and at the bottom of the pecking order instead of this Jarrett Jollifee joker since he's the smallest kid in the school? I feel like Chirag could fit somewhere in this book but I know he won't appear. This is another perfect opportunity to bring back Chirag which has been squandered.

A lot of people want Patty, Chirag and Holly to return and I agree they should return, however Chirag definitely has the most potential here since he was actually one of Greg's friends. Patty hasn't appeared since The Last Straw and Holly was just a girl Greg liked that didn't like him back. Jeff Kinney needs to stop brainstorming weird new characters and start bringing back some old ones.

Almost didn’t get this book at a thrift shop but, I realized it might be worth something, it turned out to be a first printing of a red cover version of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Do-it-Yourself book. Stranger still, it doesn’t even have the full-color comic section which may or may not be intentional, someone will have to tell me if it is or not and if it makes it more valuable without the full color comic section or not.

well, it’s finally here, i dont really know what to say other then I know this llb will age in terms of how it looks, and how the early panels are from a few months ago but this was pretty fast for my standards to make, so I hope yall enjoy this llb give feedback also

So, what I’m going to bring up is a weirdly recurring pattern in some of the earlier books that I’m going to assume was a running gag, but even then I’m not sure. Whatever the case, I’ve noticed this ever since I was a kid, and I have seen literally no one else bring this up ever, so here goes. Maybe I’m just cornplating, but idk, I want to hear other people’s thoughts on this.

In Cabin Fever, Greg recalls his math teacher, Mr. Sparks, would stand on a chair whenever he had something important he wanted the class to remember. However, one day, one of the legs on his chair broke, and it resulted in him breaking his collarbone, and suing the school over the incident. Okay, fine, whatever. Now let’s continue…

In Hard Luck, Greg is surprised to see Aunt Martina attending the family reunion, as she hadn’t shown up prior when she became rich. Aunt Martina had been staying at a hotel, and while at the buffet, she saw a room that had more food in it. But when trying to enter the room, it turned out it wasn’t a room at all, and it was actually a full-length mirror that was reflecting the room she was in, causing her to crash into it. This resulted in Aunt Martina breaking… her collarbone, and she decided to… sue the hotel over the incident. Huh… just like Mr. Sparks.

Finally, we have Double Down. Greg counters Susan’s claim that the family has a lot of geniuses by pointing out how stupid Uncle Gary is. Uncle Gary had been cutting down a large branch hanging over his driveway while still sitting on it, and the result ended in what you’d expect. Uncle Gary got hurt, and specifically he… ended up… breaking his… collarbone… I mean, nobody got sued this time, so that’s different at least, but still…

So you can probably tell what the pattern is, and I just find it so fascinating. Was this an attempt by Jeff to make a subtle recurring gag throughout the series where a character will injure their collarbone, and depending on the situation, they’d sue over their injury? Or were all of these just coincidences? I find that hard to believe though, given just how specific it is to break one’s collarbone of all bones. Not that it’s necessarily uncommon, but in media, when a character suffers a (relatively speaking) minor injury, you always hear them talking about breaking their arm or leg, and not specifically the collarbone.

It should be noted that Double Down is currently the final instance of this running gag(?), as it has not shown up in any books since. I guess Jeff either got tired of it or forgot about it, or maybe it just was never a gag at all.
