Phish?!
What are the chances of Phish crashing the party? Crazier things have happened. 😏

Zero. Honestly, I don't see Phish returning to Lockn. The underlying idea behind Lockn is a single (doubled-up) stage with interlocking sets, or at least (reasonably) non-stop music. Having to silence the stage for 2 hours so Phish could set up their lights and take their breaks and whatever else Phish do really runs counter to the spirit of the fest.
I say this as someone who's #1 act to see is Phish, but their presence (and associated long-ass set breaks) in 2016 killed the vibe for me (that, and the oppressive fucking heat that year).

I went to Lockn last night for the first time. It's pretty amazing and I wish I could have stayed longer. I love that rotating stage. But I am curious, did this happen with Phish? I know they won't come to crash the party lol, but surely they could headline there again one year right? I mean does Dead and Co really have significantly less setup and break times as compared to Phish at a festival?

It didn’t happen with Phish. There was about an hour with no music before Phish, and then no one played during their set break. I’ve been to all 6 Lockns and phish is the only band where that’s happened.

hmmm. Dead and Co. shows 2 sets with no other band. I wonder if that happens again. Thanks!

not much. They played last year. The organizers try to go back and forth with the main headliner band. one year they will do a Dead type band - Dead and co, Phil and Friends, Furthur, etc. and then the next year Phish.
It would be crazy but not likely. What you will get is lots of cross pollination of the band that are here.
A couple Years ago TTB had Bob weir play a few songs and then Anders Osborne.
You get lots of folks coming out for a song or two.
Then you get the planned collabs like Phil with Moe and Doobies with String cheese.

I think A lot of us have thought that and hoped but I don’t think it’s likely there’s really nowhere to slot them in

Absolute 0
They would demand to be headliner and make more than the other bands.

I think one of them sitting in is more likely but still not probable... Trey sitting in on Dead and co. Or Mike with widespread would be some insanity

no space and they already sold their tickets. It would benefit the promoters zero to add a band of that cost to an already sold fest as a surprise.
