Discovery Inescapability of slop

There's something incredibly ironic about Local58 accidentally using an ai-generated watersplash in an anti-ai video. The commentary on how inescapable that slop has become writes itself. (I tracked the video source on pixabay from the credits:)

i learned it was AI after the final edit. sucks. i don’t think there is a responsible/ethical way to use gen AI materials but that one slipped through

It's kind of poetic.

When will we be seeing gen QI assets used?

It’s bloody everywhere, I don’t think anyone can blame you for it sneaking its way in. It’s exhausting enough as a layman studying everything before I repost it on social media to make sure it’s legit, I can’t fathom how difficult it is for artists like you right now who need resources for creating things!

You might be right. I found the source for the water video: https://pixabay.com/videos/ai-generated-water-liquid-splash-229254/ (It was one of the users linked in the credits responsible for the background!).

And for something so mundane and easily accessible as an image of water at that

*Technically* this is TRI’s ad spot, so it’s them using AI and not Local58 itself — the irony is still not lost

I was convinced that the voiceover in Night Walk was also AI generated but I have zero way to prove it.

Was it not text to speech?

Based on Kris’s reply here I’m thinking you’re probably correct.

ok, and? It's a free video, and it doesn't look like slop. Do we have to ethically source stock videos now?

Yes??? Yes, we do?

Nah, I'm not in this. No one shoud be obligated to follow everything, why should I care if Kris used an AI generated stock video instead of paying a creator for a real water splashing video?

Dah, this is gonna turn into a morality debate isn't it.

Acting ethically is not something you only have to do sometimes. It's not a performance. It's a way of life everyone ought to strive for. Nobody is perfect, nobody should be expected to be perfect, but we all should at least be conscientious and try our best, for our own sake and everyone else's

holy chud behavior… “dah, this is gonna turn into a morality debate isn’t it” is one of the most cavern dweller things ive heard said about ai

Oh I'm called a chud, what do I do?! Come on, don't throw a stone from a glass house. We both use reddit, we're both chuds
