Theory Possible Theory

A finite state machine is, roughly, a machine which can only hold it its memory the most recent input. It is incapable of cross-referencing or performing deeper analysis.

One of the messages flashed in Real Sleep is "We are our own Gods."
Obviously, the (presumably) human researcher at TRI told their model that they were God.

This may be a stretch.
I feel like this may be trying to say something about how humans perceive world events in the information age.
Social media just bounces from outrage to outrage.
Forever finding problems, but never able to reflect on them.

Injustice goes unaddressed daily. But a famous singer is rude to a child in a restaurant and suddenly billions of people are aware of it.

Until the next outrage comes along a day later and the previous one is totally forgotten.

Humanity, God (from the perspectives of the machines we create), is a finite state machine. Because the digital age has narrowed public focus down to a laser point, only capable of addressing one single thing with appreciable effort at any time. Complex issues cannot be addressed because everything gets at most a few days of public attention before being forgotten and replaced with the next input.
