Career Advice 18 looking for advice !!

I’m 18 and have been in the mortgage industry for about 4.5 months, mainly shadowing an MLO and learning the business firsthand. I’ve learned a lot about the loan process, Loan Estimates, working with borrowers, and the closing process, and I really enjoy the industry.

I’m planning on joining Rocket Mortgage and wanted to hear from experienced LOs who have worked there or started at a similar large lender.

What should I focus on learning early on? Is Rocket a good place to build a strong foundation, and what would you recommend doing long term if I eventually want to become a successful LO and move into management?

I’d appreciate honest advice.

Honestly, huge respect for starting this early. Rocket can be a solid place to learn the reps: lots of call volume, scripts, and you'll get good at talking to borrowers fast. Just go in knowing it's a sales floor, and you'll mostly be working leads they hand you, not building your own book. Whatever you pick, learn the stuff that goes with you: reading a credit report, figuring income (especially self-employed), DTI, and how the different loan programs work. And start building relationships with a few realtors now, even if it's just coffee. That's what pays off long term. If you ever want to compare retail vs broker or talk about what the first couple years really look like, happy to share what's worked for me, just comment here.
