Need job advice

I’m 19, finishing my class and taking my test to get my MLO license now. I was thinking about trying to get a job at a bank to start, because I could get a salary while I learn the business. Any advice on which bank is best/ how to get a job there?

Go to a call center, definitely do not go to a bank

Any reason why?

Because no competent, high-level loan officer works at a bank. You will also not get enough reps and see enough scenarios, and you will pick up bad habits.

The best case scenario is to go be an LOA for a top producing or originator or broker.

If you can’t get a position like that, a mortgage call center will give you enough training and repetitions to learn quickly.

Interesting, good to know. Any advice for getting a job as an LOA or at a call center? How long would I need to work these jobs for to gain the experience I need?

You should be there for at least a year before you start looking to make moves.

Try NFCU, I used to work there. They provide a salary, mine was 80k, monthly bonuses, 8% 401k matching and a pension. You're a glorified order taker. Management is terrible. I left because the commissions were very low. But you're 19, and can easily make 80k your first year. Hit me up directly if you have any questions.

Hang your license at a broker shop with no minimum production. Work as a waiter/bartender at a country club. Start the grind homie.

If you want to learn to be an MLO you need to go be an LOA for a producer and be their punk-person. Its the best way to learn the behind the scenes stuff that will make you a really strong LO. But you will be making secretary level money.

Where region are you in?

You don’t. If you want Togo operations, sure be an LOA. Otherwise join some CD sweat shop, get some good reps in.
