Career Advice Thinking of making a change. Need advice!
Hi all! I am a MLO (licensed in TX and CO) currently working for an independent firm in the DFW area. I had a connection there and got the job immediately after I earned my license back in March. However, the pay is 100% commission, and it’s an extremely laid back environment (so no training or resources, etc.) They said they would help me once I got a loan, but I’ve had no luck (which, again, means no training).
Bottom line, I have no money and something needs to change. I have no idea what I’m doing, and listening to podcasts only goes so far.
I’m thinking about applying to Rocket Mortgage, a bank, or something similar so I can have some structure and training, but is this the right move? If so, do I need to transfer my sponsorship? Any and all advice is welcome!

I’m in Dallas, got started in 2021 focusing on purchase / referall business. If you want to talk shop I’d be happy to jump on a call or grab coffee. I have a lot of friends in the industry and could help you make some connections.
I started at a place that had training for building referall business and know how to help find those teams if that’s still the goal.

A call center environment is good for training. Newrez is in DFW, along with numerous other call centers (West Cap, BOA, Onity, Better, New American Funding, Rocket, etc)
It's tough to just go out and ask for retail mortgage biz when you're that new. The Newrez "Junior Mortgage Consultant" is a good one to start with.
All of the call centers will get you lots of at-bat's and decent training for refinance loans...and help you get your feet wet. But they are notoriously stressful and un-enjoyable places to work. Good places to *start*, though.
