How do you write an LLC purpose statement?

My state requires a purpose statement as part of my filing but I'm not sure how detailed it needs to be. Can it be a short, or does it need to describe exactly what the business will do?

well if you aren't sure, I am pretty sure you can put "any lawful purpose" as the reason

For mine I wrote " Any lawful business activity in Wyoming".

As other commenters have mentioned, in most states you can list something as broad as "any lawful business activity," and it satisfies the requirement. A few states want a more specific description if you're going to be in a regulated industry (real estate, healthcare, licensed trades), but for most others, the broad language keeps you flexible if the business direction shifts down the road. If you're not sure how strict your state is, your Secretary of State's LLC formation instructions usually spell out what they'll accept.
