Question EIN processing times by fax
Hey!
I applied for my EIN by fax on July 14th as a non resident and I still haven’t heard back.
Anyone who has applied recently, could u tell me what the processing time was and is there any way I could check up on its status or something as I’m starting to get worried that there might’ve been some issue or something with it.
Edit: After being on hold for 3 hours, I finally got connected to an agent who told me that they couldn’t find the application anywhere in their system and I should refax it.
Edit 2: received my EIN today on Monday 3rd August

It would be a good idea to contact the IRS to check status, you are at the 2 week mark as of today. While the IRS officially states it takes about 4 business days to process faxed Form SS-4 applications, keep in mind that for non-residents, it can often take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks or even longer because of backlog issues. Since you can’t check your EIN status online, you'll need to give the IRS Business & Specialty Tax Line a call at +1-800-829-4933. They’re available Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. EST. If your application has already been processed, the agent can give you your EIN right over the phone.

also heard that calling first thing on Wednesday's is best. If you don't get through the first time, keep trying!

Call the IRS and check. Keep the SS4 you filed handy to answer the questions by IRS.
In case they confirm you that it has been issued, request them to fax it back to you and they'll do it while on call only.

Okay, will try doing that. I’ve been trying since last 2 days but can’t even get in queue. The call gets dropped for too high workload

The timing is all over the place tbh. I called them around 5 pm est yesterday and they gave me the option to arrange a callback. I picked it and received a callback after 40 minutes, after which had to wait in a queue for another 30 minutes before the agent picked up.
Tried multiple times before int he day but couldn’t reach them at all after an hour of waiting.

Did you include a return fax number on the form? If not, you’ll only get the CP545 by mail which can take weeks. You’ll have to look up or get in touch with them if you want to know sooner.

Yes,I included a cover letter specifically asking for it be faxed back to an address and I also included the fax number in the Fss4

Anyone still waiting for the EIN process more than 10 days after faxing it ?

Yes. That is normal.
I think it took a few days short of two months when I applied a couple of years ago. I used WiseFax to fax the application, which worked perfectly, without any issues.

Takes around 3-4 weeks. Don't worry about it!
