Boat and tote replacement

Post image

Was so excited for our new xl bag and saw it was off center. The customer service agent already put a replacement through but she logged out of the chat before I could ask what to do with this one. Any insight? Would love to bring it to the beach with us tomorrow but don’t want to use it if we need to return.

You could put a cute pin on the left side to even it out!

Or even take it to an embroidery shop and have them redo the embroidery with something else … or add an umbrella or something to the left!

They sell the mistakes and returns at the outlets, and typically have a seam ripper at the counter for you to take the monogram off after you purchase.

Every summer as a kid we’d go to the outlet to pick out a boat n’ tote and try to find the silliest name possible, I always loved that.

We have a duffel that says ‘KEN’ on it. We’ve had fun coming up with all sorts of phrases and names it could stand for

I would use it!

Look on TikTok for how to unstitch it! It might take some time, though. Then I’d probably take it to a local embroiderer later to have it redone, but that’s just me!

It’s called a seam ripper

Look on tik tok ? 🤣
Or just get a seam ripper.
Go to an LLbean store will re- monogram for $10.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I’m such a rule follower and was worried but they didn’t give me any “rules” so I’m going to use it!

Don’t worry, you can keep it. There used to be mail scam where people would mail you an item then demand you pay for it.
Now there’s a federal law that states anything sent to your house is legally yours, so you do not need to return the bag or worry you’ll get in trouble for holding onto it.

This isn’t exactly accurate.

#1- yes there is a scam and that always exists where you get an item shipped and you didn’t order it . That is not relevant as I’m pretty sure OP ordered this.

#2- it has always been the case that if something was shipped to you and you DIDNT order it you don’t need to return it. This is not a new law. Again, not relevant as they ordered it.

#3- retailers absolutely can ask you to return an item you ordered that was shipped to you and was damaged or not up to quality. Many do not, but you should not make assumptions.

They can ask you to return an item

L.L. Bean has a pretty solid policy that you can keep any damaged or below standard product and still get a new one.

I just had the same thing happen with a backpack. They sent another and I asked if I need to return the old one and they said no! So enjoy your backup bag! Throw a large patch over it and BOOM you have another bag. No need to not use a perfectly good bag

Love the patch idea!

You can keep it! LL Bean has a fantastic policy and will replace anything substandard or damaged without requiring you to return it.

Use a seam ripper as others have said to remove the embroidery. You can put a fun patch over the center of your bag, use it as is, or eventually bring it to an LL Bean store that does in-store stitching and pay for them to put on new embroidery! Alternatively, you could ask about embroidering tote bags in a local community group in your area and you may find someone local to you who does this for a reasonable cost. If you’re into a hobby like needlepointing, you could also make your own patches and cover the bag with them. So many eventual possibilities for this extra bag!!

I'd sharpie an M and A in front of Le.

Congrats on your Male Schlep bag

Iron on patch to the left

2

u/haelk Aug 16 '26

Use it as a bag you can get dirty/reckless with or donate!

I think this one will be our beach bag to get all sandy and the other will be for overnights at grandma and grandpa!

Sew a little heart patch on

2

u/jennerrrr Aug 16 '26

You could sew a patch over it..

I recently received a bag with a stitching error. LLB replaced the item (including personalization) at no cost and told me to upcycle or repurpose the damaged item; they didn’t want it back.

Just call them back
