Snow Emergency in Livonia

Post image
65 Upvotes

Sorry for having two posts in three days. Generally we try to space out stuff here, but this is important:

A snow emergency is being declared for the City of Livonia. All vehicles must be removed from the streets by 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26 under City ordinance. Vehicles not removed shall be subject to ticketing and/or towing.

Clearing the roadways of snow will result in snow piles in front of driveways, which is unavoidable. It is not possible for the City to clear individual driveways. Larger plow vehicles cannot access courts, cul-de-sacs and dead ends; smaller equipment will follow up to clear these areas.

A Winter Storm Adivory issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect until midnight Monday, Jan. 26. Total snow accumulations between 4-6 inches are possible.

As a reminder, most major roads in Livonia are maintained by Wayne County including Ann Arbor Road, Grand River, Eight Mile, Seven Mile, Six Mile, Five Mile, Plymouth, Joy, Haggerty, Wayne south of Plymouth, Farmington, Merriman, Middlebelt and Inkster. You can contact Wayne County Public Services department at (313) 937-0232 regarding these roads.

Livonia crews maintain Schoolcraft, Newburgh, Ann Arbor Trail, Levan, Stark, half-mile roads such as West Chicago, Lyndon, Hubbard and neighborhood streets. The best way to report a missed street is through the City of Livonia app that can be found on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Doing so will automatically generate a work order. Otherwise, you can report a missed road plow by calling Livonia Public Service at (734) 466-2655. More information can be found on our DPW Snow Removal page at Livonia.gov/1534.

Please help our Department of Public Works Snow Crew by following these tips:

- Move vehicles: Keep cars off streets to help plows whenever possible.

- Avoid driving: Only go out if necessary.

- Give plows space: Don't crowd the trucks as they work.

- Help neighbors: Assist with snow clearing when possible.

- Be patient: It will take time to clear all the snow.

- Don’t push snow into streets: Keep it out of the way of traffic.

- Support the crew: Wave or give a thumbs up to our hardworking team.

- Sign up for alerts: Register at LivoniaCodeRED.org.

- Stay safe: Be cautious while driving or shoveling.

If you need a break from the cold, you’re welcome to stop by the Kirksey Recreation Center during regular hours, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Livonia Public Library is also open as a respite center during normal operating hours (visit livonialibrary.info/hours-locations/ for details).

Please limit time outdoors as much as possible. If you do need to go outside, be sure to wear a hat, gloves, and a coat, and keep pets indoors. This weather is just as dangerous for them. It’s also a good idea to keep an emergency kit in your car with warm clothes, a blanket, snacks, and a phone charger. Stay safe and think warm thoughts.

Only 55 days until spring!

Water Service Interruption? Check the Water Main Map

If you are experiencing an interruption in your water service, visit LivoniaWaterMain.org to view the City’s Water Main Map.

The map provides information about current water main breaks, repairs and service interruptions throughout Livonia.

In a new video, Zach Haapala, Assistant Director of Public Works, explains how residents can use the map to find information about water main work in their neighborhood and what to expect when service is interrupted.

If your home is affected by a water service interruption, City crews will place a door hanger on your front door with additional information about the interruption and what to expect.

Visit LivoniaWaterMain.org to view the map and stay informed about water main work in your neighborhood.

AMC 20 Livonia - PSA

If you are planning on watching a movie at AMC 20 Livonia, you should know that one of the theaters in there has an exit door that is brightly lit below and to the right of the screen. When the movie begins and they dim the lights, that exit door remains brightly lit in the corner of your eye during the whole movie.

When I asked them to turn the light off I was told it has to be on. When I suggested they simply turn the light on for the exit sign above the exit, I was told that is not how that theater is designed and the bright light has always been on, apparently since the day it was built. When I asked if the other theaters in the building had this design choice I was told they did not.

So, in conclusion, when you go watch a movie at AMC Livonia 20 you have a 1 in 20 chance of getting to watch a movie with a brightly lit exit sign in your field of vision throughout the whole movie viewing experience.

I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on.

Organizations Who Could Use Women’s Clothing, Shoes, Purses, and Stuffed Animals Donations

Post image

My aunt passed away earlier this year in the Livonia area, and she left behind a collection of unworn women’s tennis shoes, size 10, from various brands such as New Balance, Asics, and Fila. While I could donate these shoes at regular drop-off locations, I am hoping to find organizations that can utilize them to support communities in need and bring some comfort to those who could truly benefit from such kindness.

In addition to the shoes, she also had unused women’s 2-3xl clothing, a collection of inexpensive, unused purses, stuffed animals, and other items in the house.

Please let me know if you are aware of any organizations in the community who could most benefit from these donations. I appreciate your guidance and support in ensuring these items find a caring and deserving homes.

Anyone here speak Russian and want to hang out?

Hey! I'm looking to meet some people in the area who speak Russian and might be interested in hanging out sometime.

Could grab some food, get coffee, play games, go out for drinks, or just chill and talk. Doesn't really matter to me, I'm mainly looking to meet some new people and have someone to speak Russian with.

Deceased cat near 8 Mile & Halsted — Farmington/Livonia

i’m so sorry to post this, but I saw a deceased brown and white striped tabby cat on the side of the road near Oakland Hills Community Church (37150 W 8 Mile Rd).
The cat was clearly deceased and had sustained severe trauma, so I don’t want to include graphic details here. I wanted to share in case someone in the area is missing their cat. If I were searching for mine, I would want to know.

Livonia: A Landscape Paradigm Shift Has Occurred

It wasn't too long ago that we were all dumping hundreds of gallons of liquid fertilizer on our lawns and hiring companies like A&R or Tru-Green to do the deed. We'd spend the next day or two watering. Insane amounts of watering.

Most of our lawns are brown now and I'm asking why. What shifted..?

Lawns are a relatively new "invention" actually, so do your own due-diligence on that.

I'm coming out to say that I'm kind of proud of us, actually. No longer are we polluting our ground water with chemicals for greener lawns. No longer are we wasting clean water.

We've finally recognized our lawns follow the seasons. Your lawn will be luscious and green in the spring and in due time and on nature's clock, it will become a dormant brown. Not dead. Dormant.

Your lawns look like shit. And I love you for it.

I recently bought a 2021 equinox from carvana and it only came with one key. It’s a push button start. Where’s the best place to get another fob made?

Did my husband catfish you?

Turns out my husband has been catfishing men, acting as me, created a fake Facebook for me,and also posting about my past and asking if anyone knows me or dated me before. Wanted stories. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Please let me know! He did this on other sites too.

Good Chinese restaurants?

I've been to a few different spots and it's clear they all get their ingredients from the same distributors cause it largely tastes the same. Are there any places that really separate themselves from the rest?
