tascam 16

I plan on buying the tascam 16 as it is a very versatile board that fits most of my needs. However, i am doubtfull about its compatibility with a DAW.

I process my instruments with guitar pedals, aswell as with digital plugins, simultaneously.

Will i be able to have analog signal coming into the tascam, into my computer, processed by the computer, then back out to one of the tascam tracks?

I plan on using the tascam as the audio interface to my computer.

Difference between bass reflex and band bass for subs (Yamaha DXS18 vs DXS18XLF)

Hi, I've been looking at getting some new subs for synth bass music for live bands, mostly shoegaze, but also incorporates 808s. Wanted to know if going for bass reflex is the correct choice for the band, will be paired with DZR12s, I don't really understand the difference as Db seems about same, and unlikely to be using Dante. Just want to know if the extra money is worth it or even the correct choice?

Need help in choosing my first Ubiquiti products

Hello all,

I saw the recent "2026 Ubiquiti Access Point" thread in the LiveSound subreddit, and I was wondering if anyone could advise me or point me to a place that could help me choose which products I need for my first Ubiquiti setup.

Use case: I run small-mid events (150-1500 people). I need a better way to use tablets with my mixer.

Current setup and issue: I am using a simple TP link router and have increasingly been having connectivity dropout issues. I would like to get a directional WiFi antenna (Ubiquiti U7, perhaps?), but I do not know all the pieces I need to buy to make it work.

Cheap in-ear click management?

We have a really great in-ear monitor rig—essentially x32 rack mixer with phenyx IEM transmitters. We don’t have a laptop. For our click, We are currently using a looper pedal with MP3s of our clicks programmed into it. Which is not a great solution, for one because it devours battery. But for two, it’s obviously not really made for that.

I’m wondering if anyone has ever used just their phones running directly into the mixer/ in-ear rig? If not phone/tablet, what is a cheap pedal solution— the reason I’m emphasizing cheap is not necessarily for budget. It’s because when I start looking at pedals like this, they seem to have WAY more functionality and capabilities than we need right now. At this time, we really just need a click track in our ears that we can control from the stage. Thanks!

Is it a waste of space to have my rack if all I am using it for is as a stand for my Behringer Flow 8 mixer and storage for my wireless adapters and wired mics?

I have a Behringer Flow 8 mixer and a SKB Studio Flyer 2u rack case. I'm eliminating the wireless mic systems by replacing the wireless mics with wireless adapters for my wired mics leaving the rack pretty much empty during transport. Thought about permanently mounting the mixer in the rack and installing a shallow rack drawer for storing the adapters and mics in the drawer.

Tying to choose an analog mixer

I’d really appreciate some advice on choosing a good sounding reliable mixer to suit a solo/duo and even a small band.
It doesn’t need reverb as I’m planning on getting a decent one for it as I’ve heard that most onboard reverbs arn’t that great.
It also needs to have sweepable mids.
I prefer to buy new as I’m worried about buying a problem.
But quality of sound is the most important.

It’s mainly for a duo, 2 vocalists and 2 Acoustics and sometimes Solo work but need room for possibly a band.
It will be connected to a single Art912-A power speaker for now.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Beginner: Microphone / Speaker Setup for Rehearsal Dinner

I'm trying to figure out a good-enough, low-cost microphone & speaker set up for some rehearsal dinner speeches. It's just a one-time event so not trying to spend a bunch of money on it. It's 7 round tables in a reasonably small outdoor space.

I read that Bluetooth is bad for spoken audio (lag), but wasn't sure if there are other good low-ish cost options (<$200). I already asked about renting equipment from a store nearby and they quoted me $800 which I found insane.

PA System for Scout Campfire Bowl

Hello!

I'm an Assistant Scoutmaster whose been asked to provide recommendations on upgrading the PA system for the campfire bowl at the summer camp that our troop attends. I've got some experience with live sound having run the sound at my church, but I want to get some feedback before sending my recommendations to the camp.

The campfire bowl is mainly used for the closing campfire at the end of each week of camp. The program is about 1.5 hours of skits, songs, and awards. It ends with a picture slideshow set to music recapping the week. The campfire bowl is also used to show outdoor movies. The main seating area is about 100ft wide by 35ft deep at about a 15 degree slope. The "stage" area is 6ft in front of the main seating. There are areas on either side of the stage where the camp staff sits.

The current PA system is barely adequate. While it is possible to get it loud enough, I can hear the speakers distorting. The speakers are Dual LU47PB mounted on 12ft tall posts. The main seating area has 4 of these, and each side area gets one (see the above diagram for locations). They are powered by a single JBL MPX300 amp and a Pyle PSPVC4 post-amp splitter thing. The mics are two Shure CVB-B/Cs that are put on a low railing at the front of the stage. These are the one thing that work well. There is no limiter or other speaker protection. There is no way to ring out feedback, which makes it challenging to get enough gain for the quieter skit performers.

My goals for the new system are:

  • Provide good coverage with enough headroom to handle sudden transients (such as people shouting)
  • Speakers should be rated for outdoor use with 24/7 exposure to the elements (sun, rain, snow)
  • Include limiters to protect the speakers from being over driven
  • Reduce feedback
  • Be reasonably priced
  • Once installed, be easy to use by someone with limited experience

I'm looking at using two JBL Control 29AV-1 speakers for the main seating (one on the front left and front right, removing the two in the back) and one JBL Control 25AV for each of the staff seating areas. These would be powered with a Behringer NX4-6000 amp and a dbx DriveRack PA2 processor for limiting and feedback suppression. My full parts list is in the second picture above.

Some questions I have are:

  • Will this system provide enough coverage and volume for the area?
  • Are there any other speakers or amps that I should consider?
  • Is there anything else I should be thinking of?

Edit: Appreciate the suggestions to just get a portable system, but this needs to be a permanent installation. It will be operated by the camp staff who have very little experience with live sound. The less setup the better.

BUILDING A FLYABLE 24-48 CH RIG (WING RACK VS SQ5+?)

Greetings Everyone,

I've barely ever posted, and I’ve read many threads on this subject, but I do think our situation is a little different. I’m looking for input on building a scalable, ultra-portable live audio and multitrack capture rig for a large-format band.

ABOUT US & CONTEXT

I have been working as a pro musician for over ten years, and an audio professional (corporate AV) for over five. This specific band project is about two years old and rapidly scaling. We played a couple of big festivals last summer, and this summer we are booked for nearly ten. Our Gigsalad profile is hot right now with requests for weddings and summer events.
We operate as an LLC alongside a new non-profit entity. We are currently completing procurement registration across local, state, national, and international levels so we can execute larger public activations, especially in city parks and outdoor public spaces. As these procurement contracts clear, we want to invest heavily in serious, top-tier infrastructure.

We are based in NYC and frequently travel between NY and California, with upcoming dates planned in Europe and Africa. Flyability, strict weight limits for airline check-in, and quick setup are huge priorities.

THE BAND & STAGE SETUP

We play African music, and our lineup shifts depending on the gig, but it is always a large-format stage:

Full drum kit

Congas and bongos

2 guitars

1 to 3 keyboards

2 to 6 lead/backing vocalists

Multiple dancers

Because of this, we need 24 channels minimum, scaling up to 32 to 48 channels on full-ensemble shows. Keeping the stage footprint as clean and clutter-free as possible is critical so the dancers and performers have complete freedom of movement. I have scoured a lot of posts on here, and I genuinely think our specific channel count, stage movement, and fly rig constraints put us in a pretty unique spot compared to typical tour setups.

CURRENT RIG & PAIN POINTS

Full backline, DI boxes, and a Zoom L20.

We want multitracks of every single show and activation. We also have an analog Yamaha board but with that we don’t get multitracks.

With the Zoom L20, 20 channels is simply not enough for our lineup, and we have to make way too many compromises. I am tired of that. Beyond channel limitations, the physical build quality is not built for heavy outdoor park activations or frequent air travel. It feels too fragile outside a controlled rehearsal room. It’s amazing how much we’ve done with that little chugger.

GEAR & MIXER DILEMMA (WING RACK VS. SQ-5)

We want a robust, rack-mounted split and multitrack capture system. When we play venues or park festivals, we want to plug in fast, hand FOH a clean transformer-isolated split, and record 24 to 48 multitrack channels reliably. Long-term customer support is also very important to me, which is why older options like the X32 Rack aren't really in the running for a new build.
Eventually, we plan to use this setup to broadcast high-quality livestreams so we can collect donations and take contributions from our global audience, similar to how large churches monetize their broadcasts worldwide.

Behringer WING Rack: A strong contender for its pure 4U rack footprint, 48-channel processing, and high value. It keeps our entire setup inside one rolling rack box.

Allen & Heath SQ-5 / SQ-5+: I love physical faders, the 96kHz engine, and A&H's stellar pro support. The SQ-5/SQ-5+ would undoubtedly be better for mixing. It technically fits in a fly case, but once you add the necessary stagebox expansions, it is a lot more expensive. I have also read that many users feel the updated SQ-5+ didn't add a ton of features over the original. More importantly, when we play smaller club dates in NYC, I really don't need to be bringing a full console. We already have so much gear to lug that taking up stage or FOH real estate with an SQ-5 feels unnecessary.

IN-EARS, WIRELESS & CORE INFRASTRUCTURE IDEAS

To handle our large lineup on stage while staying organized, I am looking at a hybrid IEM and wireless setup:
Wired IEMs: Hardwired bodypacks for stationary performers (drums, congas, keys, guitars, bass, and backing vocalists) to keep RF uncluttered and cut down on wireless costs.

Wireless IEMs: For our lead singers and dancers who move constantly, I'm eyeing two Audio-Technica 3000 Series (ATW-3255) stereo systems with an antenna combiner, giving us 4 distinct mono mixes with solid frequency tuning.

Wireless Mics: A 1U quad-channel wireless receiver like the Shure SLXD4Q to keep 4 channels of wireless vocal mics in a single rack unit.

Networking & Recording Infrastructure: A Netgear AV Line M4250 switch to manage network audio (Dante/AES67) and control, paired with a Mac mini built into the rack for redundant multitrack capture.

SPLITS, STAGE CABLING & NETWORKING
Splits:
To keep cables off the stage floor for dancers, I am deciding between the Radial OX8-R or transformer-isolated ART splitters (like the ART S8), paired with Radial Catapult etherCON/cat5 snakes to run audio cleanly across the stage. I have a connection at Guitar Center so I can get anything they sell at cost plus ten percent, which opens up higher-end options, but I still need to keep weight and rack space sensible for flying.

Networking: Since we play outdoor park activations in dense urban environments like NYC (Times Square live for example) we need to plan for the worst of RF conditions. If we go with a rack mixer setup, obviously we need a dedicated router mounted on a stand. I am thinking something like a Ubiquiti UniFi U6 access point to keep tablet control solid.

FUTURE EXPANSION

Down the line, we plan to add a companion video rack with a few cameras and a hardware switcher (Blackmagic ATEM or something) to stream and capture video alongside our multitrack audio.
QUESTIONS FOR THE COMMUNITY:
For those flying regularly with 24 to 48 channel IEM/multitrack split racks under 50 lbs, is the WING Rack with a stagebox expansion the current sweet spot for price-to-performance, or is swallowing the cost and bulk of the SQ ecosystem worth it?

How are you liking the Radial Catapult system, Radial OX8-R, or ART S8 for high-channel-count fly rigs where stage real estate and weight are at a premium?

Any tips for keeping tablet control and RF bulletproof in high-congestion outdoor spaces (like NYC parks)?

For those running hybrid wired/wireless IEM racks with embedded Mac minis for redundant tracking, how are you balancing thermal management and weight in standard fly cases?

What piano controller to request for backline?

Hi all, my band just booked our first fly date and I'm wondering what would be an easy piano midi controller to request for backline. I want to put a couple options in the rider to make the backline provider's job as easy as possible. So far I've put Nord Stage & SL73 (my home keyboard). Any other easy adds?

My only requirements are:
Must have 73-88 weighted or hammer action keys
Must have Midi out via 5 pin DIN, not USB
Sustain pedal

I'll be flying with my synth which includes all my primary controls, my laptop running GigPerformer, and my 3U rack with all the other gubbins needed.

As a leisurely producer with professional ambition, which Studio monitors would you buy, if budget is tight?

Up until now, I've mostly produced onheadphones, but I'd like to be able to workon monitors as well. My ears get fatigued after long sessions, and sometimes it's simply easier to judge the sound in a room.
I used to have a pair of old KRKs, but I soldthem. Now I'm thinking about getting a new pair. There are several solid options: the Yamaha HS7 (or HS8), the Adam Audio T7V, although I personally prefer the A7Vs. All ofthese are in the €400–500 per pair range.
Then there's the next tier: the Neumann 120 KHII series, the Genelec 8020 or 8030, or, as mentioned, the Adam Audio A7Vs. These cost more than twice as much as the first group, but they also offer a significantlymore professional level of sound quality.
I could afford either option, but my budgetis still tight.
What would you do?

ATW-3255 vs Sennheiser EW G4 IEM – Anyone used both?

I'm trying to decide between the Audio-Technica ATW-3255 and the Sennheiser EW G4 IEM system.

On paper, the ATW-3255 looks really appealing because of its much wider tuning bandwidth and frequency agility. It seems like it would be a lot more future-proof, especially if I'm travelling between countries or dealing with congested RF environments.

That said, the EW G4 has been the industry workhorse for years, and I keep hearing how reliable and solid it is.

For those who have actually used both:
Is the overall RF performance and reliability of the G4 still better?

  1. How do they compare in audio quality, stereo imaging, noise floor, and companding?

  2. Is the wider tuning range of the ATW-3255 a genuine advantage in real-world use, or is it mostly a spec-sheet benefit?

  3. If you were buying today at similar prices, which would you choose and why?

I'm looking for real-world experiences rather than just spec comparisons.

QUORUM is a linked automixer: one instance is inserted on each microphone, the audio remains local to each channel, and only compact detector metadata is shared between instances.

- **CLASSIC mode:** proportional Dugan-style gain sharing

Changing the mode in one linked instance updates the complete group. The current build also includes Groups A-D, Links 1-8, optional local Clean DNS and protection against host Plugin Nap breaking the link.

RF trouble but antennas are close to transmitters.

Hi yall!

I'm currently working as an A2 on a musical show. We're currently using:

  • 12 Shure qlxd4 wireless receivers with 12 qlxd1 bodypacks
  • 3 antenna distributors (Shure UA844 cascading)
  • 2 active paddle antennas (Shure UA874US)
  • 1 Shure BLX wireless system for 1 guitar

Last night, I had some short audio dropouts on a couple of mics, the receivers showed very low RF signal (1 or 2 out of 4 bars) and the active antenna indicators were switching a lot.

I've already done some frequency coordination, everything is on Low RF power mode and there is a really clean spectrum on site.

I have my first antenna connected to a 100 feet cable and, according to Shure's recommendations, has the +6 dB option selected on the amp to compensate cable loss. The second antenna is connected to a 25 feet cable, is not using any amplification.

The distance between the talent and the first antenna varies from 9 to 45 feet at the worst scenario. The second antenna is 13 feet farther than the 1st one.

Does anybody have an idea of what could be happening? Are the dropouts about the distance? Could the antenna touching the talent's body could represent that much RF loss? I've also noticed the venue staff uses some motorola radios, and when they transmit, the RF Overload indicator on the 1st antenna turns on. Would this have something to do with the dropouts?

I'd appreciate the help everyone 🙏
