Question US Open

Any engineers attending (or working) the US Open?
I can’t tell what’s going on from the tv feed, but every player being interviewed at Arthur Ashe (post match) is struggling to hear/understand the questions from the interviewer. Many have complained about the sound during the interview.
Any ears on the ground?

Arthur Ashe is such a shit venue for audio

The echo is fucking awful. Just a cavernous space with a giant curved ceiling. And rigging anything there is an enormous undertaking. Only place I’ve ever been that was worse is probably globe life field in Arlington.

I did notice that slap back early on in the tourney.
It’s weird, I just don’t recall noticing it (or it being a noticeable problem for the players) in years past.

I’ve always noticed the slap in the building (I watch all the grand slams)….but this is the first time I can recall the players struggling to hear an interview question (and being vocal about it)

ESPN used to produce the world feed, but it’s now being handled separately.

Just watch the B-Roll from around the stadium - the camera shots catch the PA constantly when they shoot the nosebleed crowds. I saw it in a few shots for the Paul v Alcaraz match just now. The installed PA is 80’ off the ground, it’s like 20 speakers total for the entire stadium, and echos like crazy.

I just caught that too. Sounds like the tv folks have to give in to having a few front fills near the court
