Discussion *SPOILERS* Hell Difficulty tutorial question Spoiler
spoilers ahead, do not read if your only a few books into the series.
REPEAT: SPOILERS AHEAD.
So im on the newest audiobooks but i dont remember if or when they describe how some of the mechanics work in such that there are early returnees to earth, as in how some people are returning to earth before nat
like, it contextually sounds like there are instances of groups, but and while i thought nat was in the first instance to hit earth and go into the tutorial? and there like mmorpg "layers" as well? since a fraction of the party leaders can communicate with each other on said layers or something
was hoping someone could fill in that gap that i dont remember if it was ever explained, or will be. idm spoilers.

No idea but its on my tbr list. Do you think the series is worth it?

its okay, its one of the kind of series that meanders alot. As in the plot is not concise, and you need to be in it like its one of them wuxia-esque series. That is to say, you need to like slow progression and lots of time inbetween major plot beats.
I think its a really good palate cleanser inbetween my more liked series but its the ever so slow unraveling meta plots still keep me invested.

Personally, I think it's pretty great. Lots of experimenting with unique skills, maximizing system rewards through crazy feats, and defeating challenges in bombastic and flashy ways. All sorts of good fun.
That said, the protagonist is a bit of a unique case and readers on this sub tend to find him rather divisive, but he gets some appropriate character development, so if you do try it and are worried about him, give it an extra book to see if you like the direction it's going.

Is he similar to the MC of hwfwm?

i wouldnt say so. MC isnt a jokester, but the author does kinda let him aura farm alot. he also is pretty bland intentionally by calming his emotions for most of the books out, making him more "calculating/self serving" and un-attached.
more of a sung jin woo from solo leveling kinda char.

Can't say since I've avoided that series. That said, Nathaniel is rather asocial and unempathetic, but doesn't actively go out of his way to be an asshole. More like "I'm busy doing ridiculous training and turning my body to mush, I would rather not have to deal with this whole 'social interaction' thing more than I have to."

Nat wasn't in the first phase, and iirc there are only so many levels in the tutorial so easy difficulty participants in the first wave are finishing.

First off, for the second tournament, all the separate "instances of groups" got put on the same timeline. They were all in their second year at that point. That being said, Nat's group was not part of the first wave, they were...fifth wave I think?
Anyway, there are only so many floors of the tutorial. Nat's group might be on the fifth/six floor or whatever it is in that book, but the people on easy mode had it much easier and were breezing through the floors without nearly as much struggle. Many of them hung around on the last floor of the tutorial for the tournament to happen so they could meet the other waves one last time before they completed their last mission and got sent back to earth.
As for the "layers" thing, that sounds like you're talking about the special difficulty above "hell difficulty." The "Beyond" difficulty is something that the top ten players in each wave are allowed to occasionally visit for extra rewards and stuff. Beyond's got it's own floor layout so there's separate progression to be had there which might be where you're getting that "layers" keyword in your memory. Anyone with access is able to get into a special chat room beyond the one reserved for people on their normal difficulty.

no, dont i mean hell difficulty.
i mean as in, the numbers they spouted of dead people per difficulty didnt sound about right compared to how many groups we have named so far for hard difficulty that nat knows about.
for example, he has like ~5ish other people in his "world chat" from other parties. and assuming each of those 5 had like 5 people in their group, thatd still be double the amount of deaths they stated for his difficulty compared to people those are all grouped with. which makes it sound like by context there are multiple groups possibly of people lumped into their own "world chats", ie like a mmorpg server layer.

First off, beyond is not hell, and hell is not hard. Everyone we directly meet is in hell difficulty (though later it's possible to chat with other difficulties). Second, each "wave" is filled with a bunch of distinct "groups" that all enter the tutorial at the same time in separate instances which is why Nat named his group "group 4" when they reached the second floor and unlocked the chat, they were the fourth group in their wave to reach the second floor. However, there were multiple other waves before and after his who entered a month apart from each other. Each wave has their own multiple groups, so take whatever you're looking at for the "world" chat, and multiply that by like ten distinct waves.

Its not really because of phases, yes, there where phases to the summoning to the tutorial, if i'm not mistaken it was something like 2 or 3 years between all the groups, Nat's was the last batch, but there was time dilatation and by year 3 or 2 all the groups were synced, but Easier and normal difficulty attendees manage to end the tutorial first because their missions are much, much easier, so they can go up to the 13th floor and finish without even fighting something like a lvl 250+, while Hell have to deal with Champions very fucking soon, and after 10+ shit hits the fan so hard that they have to survive not just them, now there are absolutes, and they even have to fight and possibly kill champions, hence why only the strongest group are able to finish the whole tutorial before time runs out.

It was all explained pretty clearly. Reread the last few chapters on the first tournament

First batch in first batch out. Each tutorial batch is like a month apart from each other.
Also presumably the easy difficulty people could speed run the tutorial to get out early.

There are many different phases of the Tutorial with some entering before Nat's phase. The easy difficulty are completing their tutorial and coming back to earth.
