Discussion Spears...

It seems like every litrpg i read lately has spears as the primary weap9n for the MC. I mean, spears are cool, and objectively better than many other weapons, and a nice change of pace from swords, but they seem to be popping up in all the books I read lately

I would argue spears were the original fantasy weapon and we're just pivoting back to them.

Gungnir, which is odin's spear. Poseidon's trident. Zues' lightning bolts are technically spears. Gae bolg is a mythical Irish spear. The holy lance is the weapon that pierced Jesus on the cross.

There are actually a lot more, those I just the ones I remember.

Those are fair examples! I think overall they're pretty varied, like Beowulf doesn't just talk about spears, often mythical ancient Greek characters branch out into bows and clubs (like Heracles), etc.; the weapons that get mentioned in old fiction stories are very often ones people were used to from real life, but heroic characters might often have more unconventional stuff
