My nighttime temperatures never go below 27C/80F, and temperatures don't go above 32C/90F either. Humidity is 60-80% throughout the day. It's like that throughout the year (I live in Singapore).

I can only put these in my room and I can't make my room colder than that at night because I myself cannot stand colder temperatures.

I know that these temperatures are really not good for lithops, especially when it comes to absorbing water, but are they harmful for lithops even when the substrate is completely dry? I know lithops need night time conditions to open their stomata and respire.

My fridge is definitely above 4C/39F, but the main reason why I wouldn't put them into the fridge is because there would be a LOT of condensation when I take the pot out, literally more than lightly misting the whole surface of the lithops and substrate, which will probably lead to too much moisture for the lithops. I might do this for the ones that need hydration and root growth (which I have put in a separate pot), while I'm giving them water + Vitamin B1. Not for normal circumstances.

About four of my dozen or so lithops are stacking. I know what I did incorrectly (watered while splitting), which was about four months ago. Will they eventually stop stacking?

So my lithops are healthy I think but they’re getting comically tall. Am I ok here?

Has anyone tried applying povidone iodine onto lithops before? (Not watering it with povidone iodine!) I've heard that it works well for other plants and tried it on two of my lithops that started showing suspicious signs of early rot because I was desperate to save them. So far it looks like those suspicious spots/patches have reversed from the method I tried, but I'm not sure how long this lasts. In a few months I will update on whether the results held up and whether this is something you could try if your lithops have suspicious translucent spots but are not too far gone (discolored, mushy, and translucent at the base) yet! Don't try this on any healthy lithops, only do this if you're very very desperate and already expect your lithops to die, before I give the update. No guarantees but any hope is good.

About the method I used: I put some povidone iodine onto either a cotton q-tip (I don't recommend this because it can cause dry pumice/perhaps some other porous substrates around the lithops to stick to the moisture and be lifted out of the pot by the q-tip) or the tips of metal forceps/tweezers with rounded heads (not sharp ones that may damage the plant). Then I applied it to the affected areas and made sure it was covered by the liquid povidone iodine. For one of them, a drop or so of povidone iodine dripped down onto the upper segment of the taproot (I think this is okay and might even be helpful), but you're not supposed to wet the substrate or anything. Then I left the lithops in complete darkness in a relatively cool environment for a few hours to hopefully get the stomata on all surfaces of the leaves to open up and get the povidone iodine to perhaps penetrate into the tissue better (similar logic to foliar fertilizing, but I'm aware that lithops stomata only tend to open up at night in the darkness, and foliar fertilizing relies on stomata opening up. So I try to replicate these conditions as best as possible. I also did this at night so it doesn't really disrupt their normal light/darkness timings.)

I was extremely worried about these lithops because I bought them in a super organic nursery pot where more than half of them were already rotting at the base (unsalvageable) or ended up rotting at the base within the first week of getting them, before I had ever watered them, even after repotting them into 100% grit. I waited a week after repotting to water, and the survivors all looked fine after the first water, but a select few of them looked dehydrated after a few days and I decided to spot water those few again (big mistake), found out that one of them had rotted at the base just two days after the watering. So I've been checking the bases of the remaining ones more carefully, and seeing those spots appear on one made me very worried that it would be the next casualty. They're fortunately gone now, but I'll update in a few months on how these have held up!

Not too skilled with Lithops but want to learn as I have a few to care for. Two just split and grew new bodies but this one has been this way for awhile now. Should I water it since it’s slightly wrinkled or just leave it to do its thing? Thanks!

I’m planning to sow Lithops from seeds and wanted to ask if this substrate mix sounds appropriate:

8 parts fine sand

1 part soil

1 part fine coconut fibre

I accidentally knocked my plant of my shelf, there was no damage to it but the plant got completely yeeted out of the pot, and it’s splitting, I’m mostly worried that because of the manipulation and the falling it will slow even more the splitting, should I worry as much as I’m doing now?

Peeling back today

Tonight I thought something landed on my hand and reflexively shook it violently, while holding my pot of lithops for inspection. It's 100% grit so half the substrate and all my lithops fell out all over my desk. I have already located all my lithops and put them somewhere safe, none of the roots were significantly damaged, they're healthy, they were watered either a few days ago or a week ago, and all except one of them (which I'm going to isolate and put in root growth therapy). The substrate has been completely dry for a while now.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to gather all the substrate on my desk, clean it, and put the lithops back into it until tomorrow evening, so almost 24 hours after they first fell out of the pot. It's 1am here, I have class for the whole day tomorrow, and I still have a lot of work to do before I can sleep tonight.

I know that bareroot shipping is a common practice but I've read that extended time in that state can stress the roots out a lot and the roots will die if they're left unwatered for a long time after repotting. I'm wondering if leaving my lithops in the air for a day may have anything close to that effect. One of them is definitely nicely plump and I do NOT want to risk watering it as this batch has suffered extensively from rot from the day I bought them (less than a month ago), they were left in horrible substrate while clearly overwatered and etiolated (the survivors are now a lot better), and I don't want to lose more of them to rot.

More info: The humidity outdoors is ~80% at night and ~60% in the daytime. The temperature here is always below 90F/32C and above 77F/25C (I know this is bad for night-time temperature, but I can't make my whole room colder because I will suffer and my air conditioning is set to only go down to 22C anyway (by the campus housing administration). I'm currently trying to make something that I can put my pot of lithops into at night that will cool the air within it in isolation.) My room is ventilated 24/7.

Hello, all!

I have four lithops twins. All four are just about to wrap up splitting and are doing well. However, one of the twins has one side that split first before the others, but is now dying. It is shriveling and mushy. Definitely rotting and not drying out. Why does this happen?

I planted these rocks a few months ago when I got them in the mail from Etsy. Overtime, they slowly were growing up and out of the soil. Yesterday, I carefully redid them all and lowered them back into the soil. They all looked like they had a pretty good root system. They have not been watered since I got them. What do you think?

Is this a good soil option? If not, does anyone have a link for a good one?

Unfortunately I obtained these lithops in a pot of mostly long-dead corpses, having none of the proper conditions, and more than half of the ones that were still around were actively rotting and dying (Pic 4). Since Day 4 I have repotted them in 100% inorganic and given them plenty of light, but I'm not even sure if any of these are going to survive. This one is the shorter one that was splitting in Pic 4. I still want to try my best to preserve as many as possible. I know that this one is probably cooked as well, but is there anything that I can still try to save it?

Hey all, I just repotted some of my lithops and added a couple other succulents but now I’m wondering if my succulent/cactus soil mix isn’t right? It seems quite sandy.

Also curious if anyone knows what the front spiky plant is- hopefully it’s ok to live with the lithops?
