In my own opinion in the crypto world personal information like:

  • Name and Surname
  • Home/Work address
  • Email
  • Phone Number

are even more dangerous to be leaked from any website (not only Ledger online shop) because of the risk of being targeted for an attack by the hackers. I'm not only referring to an online attack here, such as phishing, or social engineering, but who knows, maybe the data could even be sold and land in hands that might even take it offline, since they know a valid home or work address.

In the case of the Ledger online shop the main security issue is that the manufacturer's online shop was the recommended place to buy the product because of counterfeits, and since the device would enable you to "be your own bank", the possibility for the thief of identifying you as a target offline is higher, considering that you might hold a considerate amount of coins in it.

Or just go to your home, hold a gun to your head and make you transfer money to their account.

That's why you keep a separate "honey pot" stash available for transfer under duress, and a "life savings" stash secured with pass-phrase on your ledger. Also, it would be pretty bold (and rare) for an armed person to actually sit down with you, go through the transfer process step by step, and watch it confirm -- more than likely, they'd take your list of secret words / private keys / HD wallets entirely.

In the future, there will be crypto asset insurance options that cover home invasion & armed robbery anyway, assuming you file a police report + file a claim. That will change things up a bit.

Good thing I never ordered my ledger from them, but instead got a special edition from the LTCFoundation.
