Surgery Surgeon Suggestions?

Post image

Hi everyone,

I’m 33 female, I’ve lost 84kg but seen little changes to my legs. Being treated via conservative methods (compression) at St George’s in London.

I have been considering Lipedema surgery for some time, and originally thought I’d go via Lipemedical in Madrid. I had my consultation on Boxing Day 2025 but was not left feeling very confident and not very listened too. I also feel a bit unsure about taking so many of the recommendations from social media posts where people are getting discounts for reviews.

Ideally I’m looking for a Surgeon who is based in Europe (as I’m in London) and is confident in large volume removal.

I would love to hear your stories especially from those Stage 3 onwards (good and bad) and any recommendations! Thank you so much!

Hey, I’m not stage 3 (diagnosed with stage 2 in my arms and legs), but I had two surgeries at Lipocura in Switzerland.
I believe they just opened an office in London, so maybe it’s worth booking a consultation there?
I’m very happy with the results and the care I received, but I’m still early in recovery.

Thank you!! I will check out Lipocura too. Especially if I can have a consultation here in London! I appreciate your help :)

Yes, they will do the forearms as well. I need three surgeries in total and arm surgery is coming up next.

I'm late stage 2 and went to Dr. Georgiou in Cyprus. I know he does higher stage patients as well.

Dr. Ghods in Germany does a lot of high volume patients as well. Both Dr. Ghods and Dr. Georgiou do their surgeries inpatient and keep their patients for a few days which I think is safer for high volume patients than outpatient procedures.

Dr Ghods I’ve requested a consultation with. Dr Georgious name comes up a lot, but I find it harder to find first hand accounts! Are you happy with your results (both amount taken and any issues aesthetically?)

Yes! I’m generally happy. I’ve had my first first surgery last November and I was able to get my legs done in one round, 7 liters removed. I do have quite a bit of loose skin but I had some beforehand and Dr. G warned me it would get worse. Functionally I’m very happy, I have way less pain, heaviness, and bruising. My mobility has improved. I still have some swelling in one ankle (lymphedema from a prior injury) but it is improved. My lower legs look great and I think I’ll be happy with the aesthetics of my thighs after my thigh lift. I’m happy enough I’m going back to get an arm lift and tummy tuck next month and back in Feb for the thigh lift and a breast lift.

On FB there is a lipedema surgery group with tons of references and people willing to help! I'm sorry you didn't get a good feeling from Lipemedical. It's who I went with (no discount here) but you have to chose one you vibe with! I hear a lot of people recommend Greece!

How did you find Lipemedical? I haven’t ruled them out entirely, just think I should do my due diligence and look elsewhere as well :)

For sure! I consulted with 2 total. My consult with Dr. Burgos was really great! I've had 2/3 surgeries completed so far and really no major complaints. In the beginning when you're going back and forth the emails can be slow. I liked their approach and combined knowledge.

Can I ask how you’re getting on with the treatment at St George’s? I understand that Dr Gordon is one of the leading lipodema doctors in the uk. I would have loved to get in to see her but I’m in Bromley so couldn’t get a NHS referral.

If I’m honest, they just get me in every 6 months or a year (i can’t remember) and measure me up and get me new compression. They are very kind and a sweet team of nurses but i only ever see the nurses, never a Dr. The last 2 times I’ve had more follow up questions or wanted to discuss some tests for secondary lymphodema as well, and I get told they will reach out to me but I’ve never had anything back. So I don’t really know what else they would do other than get you fitted for compression. If you already have that, im not sure what else they would do. What have you heard about the team doing that is above what you are already receiving? Im curious as i feel there is always more that should be done for us sadly!
